    Steven Jackson, "Start Me"

    By Steven Jackson
    October 24, 2007, 12:56 PM

Now. That's the answer to some of you readers who have been asking me when you're going to get some useful insight into my status in this column. Are you ready? Sitting down? Because I have some news for everyone:

I'm back. Start me this Sunday.

Knowing this got me thinking of a quote I once heard by a British writer named John Galsworthy (Oregon State education, baby!): "A man of action forced into a state of thought is unhappy until he can get out of it." That's deep, right? Well, it also pretty much sums me up over the past several weeks. I am a running back. That is what I love to do, and it was absolutely killing me to just sit there and watch my Rams play without me. But I'm feeling great, and as long as there are no setbacks this week, I'm going to be on the field against the Browns.

Every single one of you who cheered me on and told me to get healthy in the comments section of this column gets a pat on the back from me this week. I really do appreciate all the unselfishness and support you all offered while I was sidelined. In fact, I'll have a lot of you in the back of my mind on the field this week. Not just from a fantasy point of view, but from a fan's point of view.

Regardless of my status, though, we need to pick up a W in the worst way this week. Marc Bulger is back, I am back and there are no excuses for continuing this winless streak. Look, I'm not oblivious; I read the newspapers and the columns, and I saw that people were expecting me to be out until Week 10 so I could heal over the bye week, since this was a "lost season." But, believe me, it's not. We've got nine games left to play, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to try, with every ounce of willpower I have, to get us nine wins.

Underneath it all? The fact that I love to play this game. Win or lose, there's nothing better than getting onto that field and just running around and living out a childhood dream. Standing on the sidelines was interesting, don't get me wrong. I got to watch Brian Leonard and a group of guys I consider to be the most talented in the league play this game at its highest level, but I was ready to be back on that field the minute I was forced off.

Luckily, I've been treated by the best medical staff in football, and I'm ready to return and start helping this team. And yours. Hopefully, all my managers out there in fantasy land held on to me (or made shrewd trades to get me) and will ride me to their fantasy championship. I realize I have a lot of running to do to get your teams back to where they need to be.

ESPNers, I can't thank you enough for your continued support. That's why you're the first to know, directly from my lips, that you'll be seeing me suit up against Cleveland this week. I'm back!

So I'll see you all Sunday against the Browns. It feels good to be writing that again. Best of luck to all of you and your fantasy teams, and I hope you all reap the fruits of my return to the field.

So he should go crazy with fantasy points this week against our terrible defense....but either way...

Browns > SJack and his team.

    you philly fans are funny!

do remember that they led your team to 4 straight NFC championship games & a super bowl...very recently too!!!

back in 1999 & 2000, some in steelers nation wanted Cowher gone, but he stayed & ended up winning that elusive super bowl!!!

i'm sure a lot of teams would be happy to have Reid coaching them!

players get old, coaching philosophies get figured out, andy reid has no ability to change his gameplan mid game, and McNabb is 31 and without his mobility is an average QB at best. He never was a very accurate QB but through buying time with his mobility could allow his WRs to get open...If your not gonna provide him with playmakers he cannot win anymore...and this front office fails to go for big name WRs since TO. What a surprise the year he was here we were unstoppable...They need more weapons...I dont so much dislike Andy Reid the coach, but Andy Reid the GM, his drafts have been pitiful. His free agent signings with the exception of TO have been bad.

Since 2000, some Top 3 Round picks include, Todd Pinkston Rd 2, Bobbie Williams Rd 2, Freddie Mitchell Rd 1, Quinton Caver Rd 2, Jerome McDougle Rd 1, Billy McMullen Rd 3, Matt Ware Rd 3, Matt McCoy Rd 2, Ryan Moats Rd 3, these players have done nothing in the NFL or with us and have been wasted picks. Free agent signings such as Jevon Kearse, Darren Howard, allowing Derrick Burgess, Michael Lewis, Roderick Hood, and Donte Stallworth to leave, bc they wanted to get paid and arrogance to replace them with role players and believe they could perform the same. The failure to recognize the need for a kick returner of any ability.

Andy and the front office have been consistent in doing things there way and will not pay money for the best players but believe they can let there players go who want money and fill in with role players who are not adequate. They are an arrogant franchise similar to the Patriots but have won nothing to allow the arrogance. Even the Patriots realize a QB needs weapons. I dont believe the Eagles will ever pay money to get good WRs here and therefore McNabb is not good enough of a passer to throw to average WRs.

Lastly for the same reason Pittsburgh fans wanted Cowher gone, Philly fans want Reid and McNabb gone, people dont care about winning regular season games, they care about championships, noone remembers who had the best regular season record of a season, they remember who held the trophy at the end of the season and inm this era of McNabb and Reid they have not done that, and it is a failure.

That was my fault...I tend to go on tangents when I see anything Eagles related, as I love to pick on them. My bad.
