Romo signs 6 yr extension with Cowboys
Tony Romo didn't have to wait until the offseason to get his big payday from the Dallas Cowboys after all.
The Cowboys and their quarterback have reached an agreement on a six-year, $67.5 million contract extension, $30 million of which is guaranteed, sources told ESPN's Ed Werder and ESPN.com's Matt Mosley on Monday.
Romo's deal surpasses the six-year, $65 million contract ($27 million guaranteed) that St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger signed at the start of training camp. Romo and Bulger have the same agents, Ken Kremer and Tom Condon.
"It's a great feeling you have when the organization and the people stand behind you, and you can be the quarterback for a long, long time," Romo said. "It's a neat feeling that, 'You're our guy, we like you.' ... It makes you feel good as a person and a player."
Romo was in the final year of his contract and could have become a free agent at the end of the season. By signing him to a new deal before Nov. 5, the Cowboys will be able to apply some of this money toward their 2007 salary cap.
Owner Jerry Jones could not be reached for comment.
Romo hoped to get a new deal this past summer. Jones opted to let the relatively unproven quarterback go into his first year in charge just to make sure he was worth a huge commitment.
The answer came quickly. Romo was the NFC's offensive player of the month in September and Dallas finished October with the No. 1 offense in the conference.

im not really sure how you can even say that...favre has played forever...and has so many stats you cant career the careers of a lifelong vet and a 2 yr starter.
but
you can compare there 1st season as a starter and last year Romo started 10 games and threw for 2,903 yds and 19 tds while Favre in his 1st year starting started 13 games throwing for 3,228 yds and the same 18 tds so to only be fair...
at this point in there careers where Romo is...Romo is better...furthermore for their 2nd season in the NFL both as a full time starter, favre started all 16 games threw for 3,303 and 19 tds and 24 ints...Romo through 7 games...yes not even half...has 1,984 yds 16 tds and 9 ints...so 1st 2 years starting Romo has Favre beat.

i wasn't comparing them, you are, all i said was that he is no favre, and i know time will prove me right. there is a big difference between longevity and a "flash in the pan", which i believe romo is.
now, it seems like when a player has a few good games, everybody jumps on his band wagon instead of waiting to see if he has consistancy.
favre never bobbled a fieldgoal attempt as a holder., and its a good thing romo wasn't the holder in the bills game. :-)

Favre has had plenty of horrible games which is understandable seeing how long he's played. Romo (and the Cowboys) had a bad game against Buffalo and of course there's that whole field goal issue but Favre and Romo are similar in their ability to win. I like them both but since Romo is on my fantasy team this year I'm quite a Romo super fan at the moment.

Contract well worth it. Cowboys have been searching for a QB since Aikman retired after the 2000 season. We've been through a lot of losing seasons so its great to finally have an awesome QB and a winning team.
