    Estate Sale Pickups FOR SALE

Alright any of you High End VINTAGE guys out there... I just picked up a TREASURE TROVE at an Estate Sale here in Denver this morning...

1967 Topps 'Who Am I' cards... the set itself consists of famous historical figures, but included 4 baseball players - Ruth, Mantle, Mays and Koufax.

No Koufax, but I did pick up Ruth, Mays and Mantle (x4) all PSA Graded and ALL UNSCRATCHED!!! Per the 2007 Beckett Baseball Almanac, UNSCRATCHED Who Am I cards carry a 3x multiplier due to their scarcity.

Prices given are from Beckett OPG - then shown with 3x multiplier

(I listed all of these on eBay last night - 2/10/08 - at 7:15pm MST)

    Card #12 - Babe Ruth - PSA NM 7 - BV $200 x3 = $600
    Card #22 - Mickey Mantle - PSA NM 7 - BV $150 x3 = $450 - SOLD $270
    Card #22 - Mickey Mantle - PSA NM 7 - BV $150 x3 = $450 - SOLD $290
    Card #22 - Mickey Mantle - PSA NM-MT 8 - BV $300 x3 = $900 - SOLD $500
    Card #22 - Mickey Mantle - PSA NM-MT 8 - BV $300 x3 = $900 - SOLD $625
    Card #33 - Willie Mays - PSA NM-MT 8 - BV $200 x3 = $600

    TOTAL BV is $3,900.00

These are NOT Vintage cards that you will find very often - much less in this condition, again - UNSCRATCHED, and already Graded.

    All the best -

    Chris

I have to laugh, because I've found out through the course of the day that at least 4 other collector's (so called Vintage Experts - three of which are dealers!) here in Denver were at the Sale before me and they all missed these cards...I think part of it was there were about 20 boxes of cards and a few only contained Graded Griffey Fleer Rookies, Graded Topps Gwynn Rookies and Graded Topps Mattingly Rookies (they were all priced at Book or above) - and I think those guys just got tired of looking... I checked every box!

Just shows that patience pays off... same with the Pujols RC in the $1 box... about 10 boxes (400 count) with all cards in penny sleeves... I was patient enough to go through every box and pulled a 2001 UD Pujols RC (BV $60) for $1.

    All the best -

Dontcha just love $1 boxes? I always hit those at every show I go to.

Awesome pickups on the Who Am I? cards. I wonder what the population reports on PSA are of the unscratched versions? I'd do a lil research and it may enhance what those cards are worth a bit more.

    I appreciate that.

Trust me, when I first pulled them up on-line, I was plenty happy with the $1,300.00 BV... but then when I went by my local card shop and checked the Almanac and saw that 3x multiplier for unscratched!?!?! I about dropped!

Yeah, I'm still in a bit of shock over being able to find cards like these in this shape at an estate sale and not being raked over the coals on price...

    Saturday Night Update:

Per some more research, these bad boys just keep getting better...

Beckett has Graded a TOTAL of 12 of these cards:

    Ruth - 8 Graded - 1 (7.0) and 1 (7.5) the other 6 are all lower grades
    Mantle - 1 Graded - 1 (4.0) and NO others graded
Mays - 3 Graded - 1 (8.0) and the other two both lower grades

And, of the 44 Total Cards in the Who Am I set (only 4 Baseball Players), approximately 1,100 cards have been graded by PSA. Of that 1,100 only about 250 (less that 25% of those graded) are of the 4 baseball players.

A quick scan through eBay (OPEN and COMPLETED auctions) only shows ONE UNSCRATCHED - a MAYS - for sale and it's already at BV before the 3x multiplier and its only a PSA 6.

One guy on eBay has a PSA 6 SCRATCHED Ruth that he wants $250 for...

And on Beckett Market Place, one on-line store has Mantle, Ruth, and Koufax ALL partially scratched and they are asking $275, $400 and $275 respectively...

    Still listening to offers...

Posted them on the 'Bay and within 30 minutes the two Mantle PSA 7's flew the coop!!! $270 for one and $290 for the other... not bad for a $20 investment on those two!!!

The other four are still up on the 'Bay!!!
