TOPPS! Bring back your low-end products!
I dunno, maybe it is just me, but I really think Topps needs to bring back their low-end products like Bazooka and Topps Total. To be honest, I can't think of a reason of why they would want to get rid of these.
Look, let's face it, sports cards is a dying hobby and alot of it has to do with the fact that kids can't afford the price of a pack of cards. Kids that are starting to collect trading cards all buy Magic and Yugioh and other gaming stuff. It doesn't help matters that Topps just decided to get rid of their two and only two low-end products, other than the regular Topps set.
Bazooka was a great product for kids and adults to collect. If you were a base set collector, you could get the regular set and the rc's. If you were an insert collector, they were in there too (well, sort of). If you were going for the game-used, they were 3 per box. The best part, only $2.49 per pack.
Is anyone else with me on this one? I mean, I like to the high-end stuff too, but everyone can't afford that. And sometimes, we just want to piece together a set. And let's face it, high-end cards you can't do that with.

heck yeah! more kids would get into the hobby if they could afford it with allowance money, rather than playing video games nonstop....Bazooka at 3 GU per box is great! the regular topps set has nowhere close to that....
I rarely buy anything but cheap retail packs....I can't afford the high-end....if I could, Id but some of it, but I like building sets....and trading with others....when you have only high-end, you can't trade much with those people when you're a collector like me! my collection consists of 90% base, 9.5% inserts and 0.5% GU, Autos and #'d cards

I could not agree more with both of you. I wish they would keep at least one low priced product, regardless of card stock and autos/gu just for the kids. I realize UD has Fleer and First Edition, but even Ultra has become higher priced and personally I liked picking up a box for $30-40 and getting something worth collecting. I did not pick any up this year, can't say I would like spending $75 for 5 packs of Sam Dalembert GU etc.......(sorry any Dalembert collectors..no offense) with really no shot of getting anything worth my time.
As for Topps....................I wish they would have come back with Total or Bazooka as well, 05-06 Total had those golds/10 that people were actually going after for a while, and keeping the boxes selling as well as the plates. Bazooka always had the gum and I liked the mini cards and comics. Also, buying a hobby box would get you 300-400 cards, not 12 packs /4 cards like SPx etc. nowadays. Personally, I had fun looking through monster boxes for things, now it would take forever to fill a monster box with cards..not to mention the extra $$ it would take to buy them.

Agreed, and we all know what a cheapie low-ender I am, lol. I LOVED Topps Total in particular - that one was a challenge to complete, but not overextended and nearly impossible. Now we just have the regular Topps to keep us interested, along with the thankful reintroduction of retail Stadium Club (and MAYBE Bowman; it's closer to mid end though - and Topps Chrome sets are still too hard to complete for low enders due to the low cards-per-pack number). *sniffle* I like Luxury Box, but I can hardly ever buy those.

We can all thank Upper Deck's greed for this. They're the ones who are destroying the hobby with their exclusively high-end production and Topps can't keep up.

Thanks for all of the input on this topic guys. Well, it looks like the majority of us collectors agree that the hobby is heading down the wrong path.

it's trying to make it impossible for low-end collectors to enjoy it! too many people want only high end, and won't trade for a base/insert/rc of a star anymore....only want the auto JSY #d/25 lebron james cards, which I think is a shame

Here is another funny, but interesting fact. Why is it that I can get Brett Favre's most expensive RC for $30 delivered, but I have a hard time getting any Adrian Peterson cards for that price? Something just isn't right with that picture.

reason being is AP is hot now, and is only going to improve, provided he can stay healthy....and Favre is done, and he's not "The Guy" in the NFL anymore.....although, I still think he is one of the best.....but, same could be said with Roger Clemens and Joba Chamberlin....Joba is up and coming, Roger isn't.....and, the other thing is when the older guys (Favre, Clemens) came out, all there was was base RC - now there are autos, JSY's, #d, etc.....it's crazy

I don't care how "hot" AP is....When he has done what Favre has done, I'm willing to poke out $200 a card for him. Until then, he's just another Ryan Leaf in my opinion. I mean, you dish out all of this cash for his stuff and who knows, the 1st carry of next season he breaks his back and never plays again.
I understand that their should be a little difference in price for the auto/jrsy factor, but still....It just isn't right.
