4 day school week
http://www.wikio.com/webinfo?id=58611268
Due to high gas prices some schools are considering a 4 day school week. My only question is what about the parents of these kids? Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck and what are they supposed to do with their kids on the 5th day? Most can not afford day care or a babysitter and god forbid you leave a kid home alone..
Do the schools actually take this into consideration before they worry about their bottom line? Next I'm sure you will see a sports teams start going away

You're right about the day care! Not everyone can afford it or they don't trust to leave their kids there. Plus with only 4 days, kids would have to have longer hours in school or go later into the summer/have shorter breaks to get all of the material covered.

I've heard through different news sources that this is kind of scare-hype thing and not to expect any schools to go to the 4-week schedule. Personally, i think it's a horrible idea just because American education is already severely lagging behind the global bell-curve. The last thing we need is LESS education.

It was a news story on tv that started this, a school district in Min. already has the teachers unions approval to go to 4 days and add 55 minutes to each day. They figure it would save as much as 5 percent of their budget..

Sounds like a pretty stupid idea to me.

Given the choice of 4 day school weak or school taxes going up because of gas prices I will take the 4 day school day..

In Michigan, I believe it is the number of class hours. To me, this makes much more sense to have the kids go an extra 30 minutes/day.
