"Hot Pack" Question

Has anyone on here bought one of those "Hot Packs" on ebay before. The ones that guarantee an auto or GU card? Ever get anything good in those?

people open up a regular pack and reseal them with a cheap auto or gu they got...my advice...STAY AWAY!!

You just opened a big can of worms...hot packs are one of the most controversial topics in the sports card industry.

I'll keep my opinions short and sweet. I think it's wrong....I've never seen anything good come out of one....and if you get a good hit, I think it's even more wrong because you're taking it away from the collector who buys packs ethically. Some people will say there's nothing wrong with it, but they're either trying to justify it because they buy them or they're selling them.

It's like buying scratch off lottery tickets that you somehow know are a winner...everyone else pays their money and takes a chance, doing it any other way is cheating.

Someone pulled a RC Auto Printing Plate but still couldn't sell it for how much they bought the pack...its a trap, don't fall for it

Thanks for the replies. I collected in the late 80's to early 90's and just got back into collecting 6 months ago so I am a little out of the loop still. I saw them on ebay and didn't understand how someone could know what is in the pack but whether they are re-sealed packs or something else, I agree that it seems controversial. I like buying/trading single cards and busting the occasional box so I think that is what I will stick with.

A friend of mine bought one and he paid around 20 for it and he got a dunta robinson jersey and the rest i think was pretty much junk so he didn't really get his moneys worth out of it but it was sealed and everything

I agree with most people on here, stay away from them. They just open a pack, put in a no-name Jersey card and try to sell it. And even if they don't open the packs and reseal them, your still buying from a pack searcher.

i agree i wouldn't take a chance on them either but honestly pack searching doesn't really bother me that much because it saves the diehards money the only thing that kind of makes me mad about it is when little 13 year olds learn what it is and they start cleaning out all the packs every where and they don't have the same appreciation for card collecting as people that have been doing it longer, but thats just me.

I am going to take a conservative approach with this topic and remind everyone of the original "hot packs" from the mid 1990's in basketball. They used to issue them like 1:72 packs and every card would be an insert in the pack. They were not game used or autographed cards but are fun to get. They are getting much more popular nowadays (those inserts are) especially in Australia.
