    I wish everyone would....

I wish everyone would stop wishing me a happy 4th of July, as I don't celebrate the 4th of July. I celebrate Independence Day! Too many people and youngsters especially only know the day as the 4th of July. How weird would it be for everyone to start saying Merry 25th of December?

Today we celebrate our independence, not a day of the month!

    Happy Independence Day Everyone!!!

As we make things "easier" we tend to lose focus on the true meanings of things. Independence Day has meaning for me, other than hot dogs and fireworks.

you do know that these 4th of july traditions you speak of go back to the days of our indepence, right?? its not a new thing, lol

No doubt that most of us can chug a beer and wave a flag at the same time, but how many of us actually celebrate the independence part of the holiday? How many times during the day do you think of the people who gave their lives so that you could be free? Independence Day celebrates the birth of a nation, so chug a beer, wave a flag and say Happy Birthday America!!

as many times as i do any other time of the year - i dont need a holiday to recognize such things (dont you think thats just as bad, only realizing this once a year?).....i always think about the good things and the bad with this country (i love our indepence and our freedoms and am thankful for it, but i also dont forget the way we've treated the NATIVE americans, or the fact that we enslaved millions against their will during this exact period).

also, isn't that why we burn thru beers and burgers, and blast of fireworks?? because we can, thats the celebration!!

I agree, we should not be complacent with the memory of anything. We don't have enough days in a year to celebrate all our victories, or weep for our losses.

"Because we can..." that is the quote of the day!! Love it!! That, my friend, is independence!!

Good point...I wonder how the native American people view the whole "Illegal Immigration" topic.
