Is High End Trading dead? You tell me....
As most of you know, times have been pretty rough in the high end world as far as trading goes. Nobody offers you anything decent when you post high end stuff or they want to trade you their junk for your gems.
Everyone wants to trade by sell value when it benefits them, and if it doesnt, then they always have some excuse as to why their card isn't selling well at the time and blah blah blah. Everybody is out to try to make money off of each other and nobody wants to make trades for fun of the hobby anymore. Well I guess I'm the last one left because I consistently TRY to trade by book value and think Ebay is too volatile to be the value guide.
Hey, how's Jay Bruce stuff selling right now? Because a month ago, it was probably getting double book. So which value are we using at this point since he isn't red hot? You could sit here for days and list players who are hot one week and ice cold the next, and that is supposed to be how we decipher value now? Well, I'm putting some stuff up for trade here. And if it doesn't have a book value, then yeah, I'm forced to use Ebay as a guide. And if you have something that doesn't book or is selling over its book value, I will absolutely go that route too. But for the most part, I would just like to make some fair honest trades instead of always having to go back and forth two hundred times with guys bickering over minute details that hold a deal from getting done. And don't tell me what your card "Should be worth" or "Should be selling for" because I don't care what you think or say. I just want to have some new stuff to look at and I want to find some guys who are easy to deal with and are good guys. Like Hotwheelz, like Deter, like Dustin.
I want high end stuff in return, I don't want junk. You see my site, there isnt junk here so please save both of our times and don't send me photobuckets with 15 pages of game used cards or ask me to trade a $300 autograph for 10 $30 cards. If you have an offer worth making, make it.
Looking forward to seeing if any faith can be restored in online trading, or if I'm just going to put my cards in a box and not look at them for a few years, because that's where its heading and its heading there fast....

Interested in any of this stuff? I like the Upton (books for 200 not 325) and the Kershaw.

Loopdog:
I enjoyed your commentary and I agree with you - just not to the same level since I don't have the same extensiveness of your trading background. I have been a lurker for a while, but have been hesitant to trade here. Having said that, I have been trying to dip my feet into the pool. Similar to your experience, I am getting offers of small fractions of value. I am a true high end guy and have much that is not on my bucket page. I have ponied up some of my high end in order to try to acquire older vintage rookie cards, but am not having much luck. I must admit to being a bit dismayed with all the new insert sets with GU and autos and patches - limited to this # in one color or that # in another. There is just so much product that it has to be pretty special for me to jump. Having said that, I do like your Bradshaw. Do you have any older vintage stuff - specifically baseball HOF rookies? Thanks for sharing the other page of PC stuff. I enjoyed looking at it.

i agree and would also add that some people you offer to trade up to with nice stuff, get out of control and want way too much!!! example 1-$500 card for 5 or 6 $200 cards, not a good deal.
any how i like your dimaggio and bradshaw,
no junk here

I love looking at your stuff from time to time, shrewsbury...
The only high-end I have is this (#/15) which, if you're interested, I would like to go toward buying your David Wright chrome auto. If you not interested in it, I still would like to buy it, if you're selling!!

painting - the upton is the refractor version, not the regular one. Didn't really need anything you listed thanks though.
terjung - thanks glad you agree with some of what i said. I do have some vintage stuff, but nothing really high grade and i dont own any graded cards really. I never got into the grading persay. Your website has some sick stuff on it, those presidential cuts are beyond cool and you landed some big name guys. Nice work. Love the A-Rod Leaf limited rc you have too, one of my favorite cards ever.
shrewsbury - thanks pal. Didn't see anything i was after right now, if i went to more shows locally i would have more use for that Ruth stuff being i live in NJ, but i havent been doing much driving around lately so i dont need them for now. Take care.
daniel - no need for the Kaline but thanks for the post.
cub - thanks bud. Some nice Arod stuff there, especially the patches. One of my favorite cards I own is of Arod, one of the old SP Signatures. I like the 95 minor league card you had up, he looks so young
