    Legal Question on Price Gouging

I have a question for any legal people out in SCF land. I bought a couple tins of the couple from a local store in Buffalo. I paid $390 before tax and on their site, it is list at $345.

When I questioned why they are charging more, I got an answer of shipping charges!

I'm I going nuts or is this gouging? Further, can legal action be taken?

    Thanks,
    SK

I'm not a legal expert but since it isn't a regulated industry, I would have to say they are good to go. I would suggest doing more research next time.

and cards aren't like a necessity....someone's just making a nice hefty profit--no law against that

Usually the answer to this is:

It's more expensive in person because you actually have to pay the person to work there. It's generally cheaper online because you don't really have to pay anyone to sit in the store all day.

I'm not sure of the legality of that though if they are advertising a lower price on their website.

Even if you did have a cause of action, is it worth it for $45? Suing someone on principal sounds great, but principals can be expensive. Theoretically, even if you won a claim you would lose money defending it via court costs alone.

While that is true, i'm not the only one that would be impacted and it is not just that one product. So it would not be me and $45 bucks. The money isn't really the issue, it's the legality of charging more than an advertised price.

Again, it's my fault for not researching before buying and ultimately, it is my own fault!

Most of the time they have online prices cheaper online than in the store for the only reason that they don't have to pay someone to work the store but I think that a $45 dollar price is too much money.

Is it legal, yeah it is. If it is not regulated, then u can charge whatever u want.
