Clayton: History working against Favre, Jets

Jets fans shouldn't expect Brett Favre to deliver a championship. When Hall of Fame QBs switch teams late in their careers, the results are usually unspectacular, writes John Clayton.

Favre should've stayed retired. He will look like a washed-up has been in the AFC. I guarantee it.

this is part of what clayton says, and the two situations are in no way similar.
this article is loaded with outright lies.

Last week, I spent a few days at Chiefs training camp. While Favre was batting Packers management, I reminisced about the two years Montana played for Kansas City. The circumstances had an eerie similarity to the Favre situation. Heading into the 1993 season, the 49ers were ready to make the permanent move to Young at quarterback. Montana was 37 and had missed 15 games the previous season because of a bursa sac problem in his elbow. Young was 32 and coming off two seasons in which he was the league's top-rated quarterback.

49ers management wanted Montana to compete against Young, but Montana sensed the outcome. He sensed the 49ers were willing to move on. Like Favre, Montana didn't want to enter a competition he could lose. Hall of Fame quarterbacks are used to winning.

    1. montana wasn't given a chance to compete for his job, and he wouldn't have lost.
    2. joe went to the chiefs because thay had made the playoffs the last couple of years, and had a good playoff chance, which they did both years.
    3. the niners organization let joe pick the team he wanted to go to, because unlike the packers, the niners had class.
    4. the chiefs met the niners that year and the niners lost. ho ho ho
    5. neither montana or favre was afraid of competing for the job, this clayton doesn't know crap about either situation.

    6. another tidbit of information---the chiefs also picked up marcus allen from the raiders as a third down back. raiders owner, al davis, had a grudge against allen, and allen didn't play a lot. allen went to the chiefs because he wanted to play with joe. marcus allen, who had been picked up to be a third down back was the leading rusher in the AFC the first year with the chiefs. calls for another ho ho ho

does anybody notice that most of the people saying favre will go down have zero feedback. and probably under 15, yeah, like they really know.

Favre will be similar to Emmitt Smith, he will spend a year or two and it won't feel right to him, so he will re-retire.

i think favre will do about as well as emmitt did, namely capable, but not great.

frankly, i think he passed up a golden opportunity to retire after 2007. he's never going to look nearly as good as he did last year. that being said, it's completely his prerogative whether or not he wants to keep playing. likewise, it's the packers prerogative not to gift wrap him for the vikings.

neither side looked particularly classy. in the myth of brett favre being the ultimate packer, it turns out that brett was looking out for brett and the packers were looking out for the packers.

what does their feedback have to do with anything? they're as likely to be right as anyone else here on the board.
