Why do we demonize the rich?

One of the main reasons I almost never vote Democrat is because almost every Democrat I have seen in an election plays the "class warfare" card. Why do we demonize the rich? I just read a Cindy McCain article where she sounds upset that Obama continues to ridicule McCain on the house issue.
"I'm offended by Barack Obama saying that about my husband," said McCain's wife Cindy.

When asked if Obama went too far in his criticism of McCain, Cindy responded, "I do. I do. I really do."

McCain also said beer the distributorship her father built, which is the source of much her family's wealth, typifies the American Dream.

"My father had nothing. He and my mother sold everything they had to raise $10,000," she said. "I'm proud of what my dad and my mother did and what they built and left me. And I intend to carry their legacy as long as I can."
    I agree with her 100%.

I have never met a lazy, rich person. I know a few people that I consider rich and every one of them had very little when they started out. one of my high school buddy's dad owns a local plumping company and is wealthy. He still goes out and does plumping work!

People like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and other billionaires started out with nothing and thanks to the American dream made billions. There are stats that show that the richest 10% of America pay like 50% the tax in America. They also are less likely than anyone else to actually use government services like public schools, transportation, etc.

Personally, I'm growing tired of the class warfare and the "Entitlement Society" Democrats are creating (a.k.a. get social services for breathing). What ever happened to keeping what you earn and paying your fair share of tax?

While I tend to be a Democrat on most issues, this is one thing I disagree w/ from their side. I've also read that stat saying the top 1% of the wealthiest pay 50% of taxes, maybe it was 10% though... Regardless, I think it's absolutely ridiculous. I think there should be a flat tax, a common % of income charged, no matter your income level. It's the most fair way, I believe.

Mike, it has been a part of their strategy for years. Democrats point out the differences among us ALL THE TIME and work to appeal to each group.

Weather it is right or wrong, is it alright for McCain to attack Obama on any sort of level, if Obama points out that he owns 7 houses, because McCain is attacking after Obama so what? i don't know about you, but i don't really care of there commercials aired, seems more like they are desperate to tear the other down.

More importantly though, who needs 7 houses honestly? 2 and maybe even 3 if you have the money is fine with me but 7?!?!?!?! i wish my mom had money to afford 1 house since she works her @$$ off to try and save up for a down payment right now but who needs 7? seems overboard, i am democratic but my view on this election is that whoever wins, we will regret it..

I guess I don't care how many houses McCain has because it has no affect on me. If he came to my door and ordered me to leave because he is buying my house, that'd be different. Instead, he's buying a product that's for sale...I don't see what's wrong with that.

His wife's parents worked from nothing and now his wife has inherited that business as well. But you can not say McCain has NOT been working hard. While I'm no McCain fan, I'm sure he's worked harder than tons of people. Also... just because someone works "hard" for something, doesn't mean they will earn a lot. It all depends what kind of skill set you possess, what kind of field and how much you help the business you are employed in, etc etc. I find no problem with having 7 houses. If he has the money, so what? How is that your business? He's not stopping you from having a house. What might be stopping you from having a nice house, multiple houses, etc is YOUR job, or local employers who for whatever reason might not employ you for a higher paying job.. No offense to your mom or anything like that.. But McCain has NOTHING to do w/ that.

I have never met a lazy, rich person.

I really didnt want to jump in on this topic...I dont really care if McCain has 7 houses...like daniel said, he's got the means, so buy what you want...I think whats interesting is that he's running for president and wasn't prepared to talk about this when the question came up

I dont at all believe in a flat tax rate...if you want to eliminate income taxes all together, great...but to tax somebody making minimum wage at the same percentage as somebody making a few hundred thousand year im not cool with...I dont think people in the 35% bracket are exactly struggling, maybe struggling to buy that 5th car or that 2nd vacation home...but how do you think somebody making 20,000 a year is gonna do at the 35% bracket? They're probably skipping a few meals to make ends meet at that rate...I am absolutely in favor of things like Earned Income Credit for low earners, but I guess people view that as wealth re-distribution

I do have a problem with the quote above Mike...not saying this was your intent, but it comes off as saying all poor people are lazy
