You gotta admit: McCain's got some brass...

If you like the idea or not, it looks like a very bold political move:

what exactly do you like about it randallcards? Do you think we should spend 700 billion for a bailout or not? Or do you just blindly follow McCain in whatever he chooses to do?

Personally, I say screw 'em....let them fail...but at the same time, I'm not trying to go through a depression like my grandparents...some are speculating that if we don't do the bailout, then foreign investors are gonna run, leaving us in a really really bad spot

Politically, I think it was a great move as well...especially when Obama stays out on the campaign trail and doesn't even come in to the office to help at all.

As someone said in another thread, yes it's a political move...but everything either one of these guys has done/will do since they declared their intent to run has been/will be a political move. As such, Obama is out on the campaign trail telling people he wants to help the middle class and quit giving breaks to corporations while the people are suffering. But McCain actually goes into Congress and does something meaningful about it instead of just a lot of talk. But as the article points out, the only way he would look bad is if the bailout is passed despite his efforts and the effects are felt immediately, which is very unlikely.

I also think it helps a lot with his stature in the Republican party. A lot of conservatives don't like McCain because he is a moderate (myself included)...but this was a very conservative thing to do, standing up for the free market principle.

Personally, I say screw 'em....let them fail...but at the same time, I'm not trying to go through a depression like my grandparents...some are speculating that if we don't do the bailout, then foreign investors are gonna run, leaving us in a really really bad spot

That's exactly how I feel. Bad business deserves to receive the consequences and good business deserves to reap the rewards...but I'm afraid it's at a point that it will affect much more than just the businesses. As far as foreign investors, it really shouldn't scare them away too much...not saying it won't. But it's the old cliche of buy low, sell high. A lot of investment could be made right now and in the near future for pennies on the dollar and, when the economy bounces back like it always does, there will be a lot of money to be made for whoever is willing to accept the risk.

Obama was in DC yesterday and was in the same room as McCain...so I'm not sure what you mean

From what I've read, Obama was in a short meeting w/McCain, the President, and a few others, which the meeting was requested by McCain. Also from what I've read, McCain suspended his campaign to come back to DC to work on the bailout package, only part of which was the meeting, but Obama only stopped by for that meeting. If I'm wrong in any of those points, my bad...feel free to correct me, that's just what I've read about. If Obama also came back on his own accord to work w/Congress on the bailout package, then why is such a big deal being made about McCain doing it, but not Obama?

LOL to suspend your campaign means you are not running the attack ads I have seen the last 2 days. You are not having your people come out and tear down Obama on an hourly bases. He did not suspend his campaign he just went back to work and from all the news didn't do a whole lot..

If you let them fail you will cost thousands if not millions of americans their job because you have to let the other industries fail...

i agree with ya, its not our fault as tax payers, McCain is trying to get it resolved by doing it but putting more of the hardship on the people that made it wrong, atleast thats what i read....
