Obama's Ties w/Socialist New Party
I know I'm asking for trouble with this, but I can't not post it. Let's try our best to remain civil and avoid personal attacks or I'll shut it down in a heartbeat. Let's think of this as a test to see if we can actually all get along or if this forum is doomed to failure.
NewsBusters: Will MSM Report on Obama Membership in Socialist New Party?
Back in the summer, both Obama and the New Party denied that he was ever a member. The wonder that is the internet has proven that to be false. The New Party had removed any evidence of his affiliation with them from their site. But there's a little thing called the Internet Archive Organization that keeps a copy of web pages going back to when the internet was first started. And recently found in those archives are pages from the New Party website listing one Barack Obama as an active member (links in article). Also found are articles from the Progressive Populist, a socialist newspaper, and the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America, a socialist organization, listing Obama as a member of the New Party as well. A big deal is made about the political agendas of news outlets and especially bloggers and lesser news sources, but this is from the non-profit, unbiased archives showing information from socialist publications themselves.
Oh and by the way, this was posted on October 8. So almost a week and a half has gone by, yet I haven't heard anything from the major news outlets about this. Maybe I just missed it, but to me this is a big deal and should be front and center.
This may not be a surprise (it's not to me), but I'm just wondering how people who support Obama feel about this. I know what McCain supporters will say, I think we all do. Of course, some Obama supporters may be Socialists or at least sympathize with Socialism. But for those of you who aren't/don't, how do you feel about this?
And remember: KEEP IT CIVIL!

yeah, essentially...only i wouldn't call them fights, i just think some people are stuck in their ways and refuse to see other perspectives...but it's basically the same reason i catch myself watching bill o'reilly from time to time....i come here for the different personalities
you've got mr silvia who seems distraught at times that people actually support Obama and has a knack for using the word vice incorrectly
you've got streicher to balance the postings of mike and with his amazing signature
you've got renegade who apparently is to scared to place a bet and therefore a crybaby...lol
you've got the tiger pimp who thanks to your name, i probably wouldn't have had my 5 points reversed
you've got randallcards who was a democrat for 12 years, but Bush showed him the light and is now Republican
you've got Techman who liked the songs I made and blasts Obama every chance he can
you've got daniel who is the economic expert
you've got ensberg who is a minister and his religious perspective
you've got gatorboy who loves to piss ensberg off
you've got haybierman who supported Giuliani and seems to want the prison population increased even more
you've got bonds who became my friend when it was pointed out by mike he only had one
you've got rockman who made me laugh too damn hard when he pointed out mike was breaking the bumping rule
you've got mattcurren who tries to point out to mike what is incorrect, only to be ignored
you've got bowler/gladdy who is standing up to teachers in his school for having double standards
you've got jermz telling us about the New World Order and Illuminati (somebody needs to)
and lastly you've got me who doesn't really care about half of this stuff, but just wants to see marijuana legalized

Red, one of the funniest posts. I'm a little upset that I was so far down on that list. I'll try and deal though. I can honestly say that this place wouldn't feel the same without everyone on that list. I do want it to be a bit more civil and less aggressive though (I'm at fault too for that).

I'm a social capitalist and I do sympathize with socialism. As far as Obama, he probably is out there more so than many people know, at least in the perspective of traditional political perspectives of the general public. (alliteration anyone?) However, that does not mean he is conspiring to destroy the US government or implement some over-the-top policy. You can be liberal and not be radical, most people just can't wrap their minds around that.
As far as 'supporting' Obama, this doesn't change my opinion much, although I'm not crazy about him either. However, I do agree that if McCain can get this to take hold in the media (and use it effectively), he's got a golden nugget of information that would certainly lead to him (McCain) winning.
Or, maybe I'm overestimating the American public's ability to understand things not necessarily filtered through the media.

As long as they'll snap at the carrot, I'll keep hanging it out.
And by the way, Pimp...do you fancy yourself the new Mike or something?

I am not sure this would change anyones mind about Obama, from what i have seen those who are voting for Obama are set in their ways. They hate Bush and want change.

I don't know what is bigger. The fact that he was tied to this group or the fact that they tried deleting all record. If you don't think there is a problem then why do you deny involvement and delete involvement?
