Does anyone else think this way
Lately I have been looking around the trading sites and I have seen alot of people wanting to buy cards, but the catch is they want real good deals or below ebay prices. I guess what I am saying why would someone sell to them lower than what they can get off ebay. I think the hobby is starting to go down hill and I think soon we will see prices really start to drop off. I bet in the near future we will see our first all autograph set and packs will cost 4.99. I remember back in the day we you pulled an insert you thought you had something, now people don't even take the time to look at the base cards, they flip through to the thick card lol. I know some of you disagree with me so I would like to get some other opinions.

The reason a buyer wants below ebay is because in a lot of cases he or she can get it. Ebay raised their final value fees last year (the fee charged at the end of the auction). They now charge 8.75% of the final auction price. Add in Paypal fees (also owned by Ebay), and the seller really loses out on the deal. For example, a $500 purchase on Ebay costs a seller $43.75. Add in the listing fee and Paypal fee, and you've just lost $50-$60 of your original sale. A cheaper alternative is to trade on one of these sites. Sure, you have to pay the Paypal fee, but you just might come out ahead.
Not to mention quick cash. The seller doesn't have to wait 5 to 7 days for the payout.

That's why trading is better than selling, so you can get more value for what you give away.

i def agree with you....the hobby almost isn't a hobby anymore....i've seen too many people open boxes upon boxes to get "THE HIT" just so they can make a quick buck.....that's why even though i really like upper deck products, i respect topps more for still having some "lower end" products for the collectors to buy
and i don't know about an all autograph set (unless something like a 1 auto per 1 pack box comes out //// wouldn't surprise me if upperdeck did this)......but i def agree that autograph sets are way way way too watered down

i have thought this for some time now. and when i said the value of lebron and jordan autos would go down everyone said that was wrong, but i now prove to be right. all prices are going down for singles and patches, gus and autos.

I remember the "old" days (prior to 2002) when even scrub GU commanded a HI BV of around $20. BV has become useless, Beckett itself has become useless, eBay has become the standard but caters like a slave to PayPal, the companies are afraid to put out low end product, kids are finding it harder to collect, and this trend has been discussed for several years now - but there is no sign of this saturation going down significantly. I'm just glad I have a dedicated, small, personal focus on my collection, because it's all too easy these days to get swallowed up in the bloated hobby.

Sure... we all like to point fingers, but we really have ourselves to blame for the decline in the hobby.
Collectors love gu and auto cards, so naturally, card companies are gonna continue to flood the market with sticker autos and gu'ed cards. But, collectors also want these cards at the lowest possible price, so we all turn to ebay.
Personally, this is why I only I like to collect 90's gu cards and "on-card" autos, and refuse to buy boxes. Eventually, I do believe that these would be the cards that would gain the highest value.
