Will we ever learn?
I was just watching CNBC this morning and they reported that trucks are the #1 selling vehicle and hybrids are not selling because gas is so cheap. Will we EVER learn?

Hybrids arent good for city driving if im correct dont the batterys only kick in after a certain MPH? would do much good if your sitting in traffic. My wife and I looked into hybrids and asked about the price of replacement batteries when they go out and there crazy. There was an article on msn a few months back about alot of the hybrids on ebay and it said a majority of them needed there batteries replaced and the owners were just dumping the cars because non hybrid owners didnt know the replacement cost

Hybrids just aren't very practical yet. Typically they cost more than a comparable gas vehicle, most have a decrease in power, there are added issues with the additional technology (as Mini mentioned), and there are many gas cars with high fuel economy you can buy for cheaper if you're really interested in it. All the major car makers are increasing the fuel economy of their regular cars by leaps and bounds (if you compare it to the increase throughout the past few decades), which hurts the hybrid's appeal. It's just like with any other technology, when it first comes out, it's too expensive and isn't cost effective enough for the average person to buy into. Once the technology is better and cheaper, and possibly the hybrid option will be worked into all models, then we'll see a difference

Answer to question: No. People don't get it. Hybrids or electric cars are so much better for the environment - there isn't an endless supply of oil folks.

Well, the hybrid my brother has, the engine turns off when your at a stop light or come to a complete stop and I guess it runs on the battery or something. Then when your on the highway I think it drops down to only a couple cylinders.

Even if you took hybrids out of the equation, people should be buying less trucks and SUVs and more compact cars. It is unbelievable that people just don't get it then they blame everyone but themselves when gas prices go up.

People are more worried about their comfort and preferences now, which they can feel and experience, than they are about possible problems in the future, which they can neither feel nor experience.
Everyone falls into that frame of mind to some degree or another...there is environmental impact in just about everything we buy, eat, use, etc, but most people aren't thinking about that and very, very few are willing to forego those things for the good of the environment.
