Need Some Thoughts
Hey guys I'm wondering what nice set I should go after when I finish my 08-09 Topps Chrome refractor set...I'm leaning towards the 05-06 Topps Chrome RCs because the CP3 is going to explode in value any minute now...plus the draft class that year was sick and I love the design. Only drawback is those weird RCs of foreign players....I don't know much about them, but I have a few. Oh and another reason I'd like to chase this set is because it is the type of set that people are willing to pay a lot for in the future, somewhat reminiscent of 96-97 Chrome. But if I'm looking for a set like this should I go towards 05-06 Finest??? Please give opinions...

I like the style and design of 2005-06 Topps Chrome but it does have all those D-League cards...
If you want something from 05-06 I have a few extra sets of Topps Style...
Hardcourt and SP Game Used are also good sets from that year because the RCs are serial #'d - making the challenge sufficient...
Finest is a great choice but do you stop at the RCs (thru #125) or do you also get the RC autos (#126-139) or do you get the draft picks as well (#140-169)?

Something from 05-06 or 03-04. Good crops of rookies.

03-04 Chrome is a fun set to build...could go for a nice Gold Refractor set from 04-05 or 05-06...pricey and hard to complete.

I would love to do something like those but they are just too pricey...Maybe 04-05 Topps?? How much does the Chrome Lebron RC go for? I might have a shot at the 03-04 Chrome but I doubt it, I don't have too much tradebait or money for cards

Yep plus the Chrome has 50 RCs so that might be a bit too big for me...don't need the Topps Style though, I'm no fan of "throwback" sets. Plus I don't think the Hardcourt and SPGU are memorable enough that year. '52 Style revolutionized the hobby, but as I said, I'm no fan for those "throwbacks"
And Finest would just be too tough. Considering the First 14 picks (besides CP3) have rookie autos...so theres not much great regular RCs. I'm in the crossroads here, now 03-04 Topps is popping up...we'll see, I'm going to start building whatever I choose within a few months.

go with something that will provide a challenge but that will hold some value...Chrome at least the 03-04, 04-05, and 05-06 sets all have nice rookie crops. It may take a few months to build via trades etc but its not impossible considering they are not super old releases. Try building the 96-97 set now and its a pain short of buying everything unlike the others that are still in tradelists and can be bought easily. I would suggest seeing if any of those sets are on ebay for cheap..i had considered rebuilding my chrome collection that way, might also find some short sets you can complete quickly via trade.

Well the LBJs have fallen in price in the last year. I think they are only $80 now. They were about $120 a year ago. What you could do is trade for all the cards except the high end rookies then save up and purchase the high-end rookies. The best for your value set though IMO is 05-06 chrome. The CP3, D will ,and bynum have not exploded in price yet like the D wade, LBJ, and melo chrome rookies.

im currently working on 05-06 chrome x fractors. dont do it as you will take away my chances of completing the set. lol
do the gold ones instead. they look great also and have great value to them. i have 3 or so that i can trade if you do do that set. if you have something for them that is..

You don't need to worry, I'll proably take a reak from refractor/xfractor sets when I'm done with my 08-09 chrome XFractors. The blue are SICK though...I had a chance at getting a Stoudemire once but I blew it
