    The Atheist Experience

Saw this on youtube. I would classify myself as an agnostic right now although I am beginning to lean to becoming an atheist. I think this is interesting and they bring topics up for discussion. Please do not take this as an attack against religous believers. I am just wanting to show a different perspective. I love their arguments because they use logic and science.

few things. doesn't suprise me at all that this is in austin! (i live there)

he doesn't address the issue for me. Saying, a watch doesn't occur naturally doesn't prove a point. He says that we have the knowledge of what a watch is and that is why we can recognize that it was created. The idea is that even if you had never seen a watch before you would know by looking at it that it was created. If you look at a human outside of what you already know or believe, you would assume it was created.
A lot of atheists (not all by any stretch) answer things in generalities and attempt to mock the person asking the question. "you are walking along a beach full of watches next to an ocean full of watches" all that is doing is attempting to mock the caller IMO. Granted, on the record I am a minister so I won't argue if anyone thinks I am just being biased.

I watch that show all the time. And you can't help but get a little snotty when you're constantly bombarded by, "Oh, so you don't believe in anything?", "God exists and you're going to H-E-double-hockey-sticks whether you believe it or not!", and "I'm going to come down there and punch your face in for Jesus." They get those comments from callers CONSTANTLY.

unfortunately you are probably right. i have never seen it before and I agree, I think it is crap when "christians" do things like that.

This is just an example of their show. I think the watchmaker argument is kind of weak also. I am not attempting to change your mind. You have beliefs and that is fine with me. These people do not answer questions in generalities and they use science. I just find it worrisome that so many people call up and threaten these people. Threatening harm because you think differently is not a "religous" value.

Agreed. Those Christians who do so are not following Jesus' example, actually.

It's certainly possible to discuss religion and atheist topics without insult. My fiance and I do it all the time.

I don't see how finding an object that has been designed means that living beings were designed by god and placed on earth.

That's a very, very weak argument. I'd stick to miracles that defy science if I was a more devout Christian, rather than...some watch..??
