I've seen most. In my opinion, Slumdog Millionaire earned those awards when compared to the competition. It was a down year for the Oscars.
Gran Torino was far and away the best movie of 2008. It got no nominations for ANYTHING. Something happened behind closed doors there... And it couldn't be because it was so blatantly racist because Crash won in 2005.

Heath deserved it, no matter how predictable the outcome was. I found it curious that he was left out of the video of all the people who passed away in 2008.
Got a little tired of the Slumdog Millionaire parade of awards.

I think that ledger winning was a joke, it was an average performance in an average movie. Also like how they put no serious competition with him. One of the losers at a different award show said they were not suprised and when asked what the consolation was they said "I'm Alive"
Rourke should have won best actor but again guess you have to be dead or play homosexual to win an oscar.

Heath definitely deserved it, have you watched it for his performance and not the movie itself?
he was awesome in it.

I didn't see that...thank God!
I thought The Dark Knight was a really good movie and I thought Heath did a good job...but not Oscar-worthy by any means. It kills me how before he died, he was viewed as a good young actor, but as soon as he died, he was all of a sudden the best of his generation and a devistating loss to the acting community. Just another example that the best way to ensure your fame as an actor/musician/artist is to die young.
That's one of the very reasons I said it was predictable...but you forgot mentally handicapped.

Well, this a subject that can't be proven, but I think Heath Ledger was won of the most convincing winners of Best Supporting Actors in a long time. Not being much of a Ledger fan, I didn't recognize him for a long time in the movie. And average movie? It may just not be your kind of story, but it made $1 billion worldwide. I really liked it, and a lot of "critics" thought it should have gotten a Best Picture nomination.
Dead or gay? Daniel Day-Lewis, Forrest Whitaker, Russell Crowe? There are tons more people that played hardcore guys and won.
