The "large-scale rearmament" will begin in 2011, Medvedev said at a meeting with defense ministry officials, RIA-Novosti reported.

We should attack them. That always seems to be the answer for all international relations on these forums.

We should let them attack us, that always seems to be the answer for all international relations on these forums.

But most of the posts in this forum are from conservatives. :)
Anyways, I find it funny they would announce this. Just flexing their muscles. If they started the buildup in secret, I'd be worried.
This sort of reminds me of the Tom Clancy novel 'Red Storm Rising'.

...I'm beginning to wonder why I even bother to post actual news on here, all anyone wants to do is bicker back and forth. And everyone cries about how bad politics are in America...

(Nothing personal just a joke since the majority of the posts featured the
)
But seriously, it sounds like they haven't had any major military upgrades since the Cold War. We are constantly updated our weaponry and other stuff, it sounds like they don't want to be left behind. Would it be more worrisome if our intelligence found out they were upgrading instead of them just coming out and saying it?

I agree...we can't expect them not to build up their arms when everyone else in the world is. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's any less disconcerting...I know a lot of people aren't paying them much attention, but their alliance with Venezuela is worrisome to me.

This is why we need to build up alternative energy. If those countries decide to stop selling us oil, we are in trouble.
