SP Authentic Checklist is Up!
Get ready for your fill of hard-signed autos!!!
http://sports.upperdeck.com/collecto...aspx?sid=52022
There is a lot of awesomeness in this set, as per usual.
Some notes:
-the return of Holo FX and they're using numbering as a continuation from last year's set
-SP Notables have a smaller print run this year, only 999 instead of 1999 as was the case last year
-Chirography is out; Penned Perfection and Marks of Distinction are in
Some highlights for me:
-more Carey Price cards than I can shake a stick at! There's another SOTT Triple with Roy and Brodeur, and an SOTT 8's with some of the greatest goaltenders of our time and all time. I think that'll be a redemption.
-the RC debut of Max Pacioretty!!!!
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Just browsed. I think overall it looks decent and is one of UD's best brands each year because it's true and sole focus is autographs.
Looks like they trimmed a lot of the sets down big time. Marks of Distinction only 8 cards? The SOTT set is pretty thin on depth. It seems they have all the top guys and then right to the bottom feeders. No AO again, but I'm sure he'll be back soon.
UD has lost that middle depth in their checklists this year. They used to have a lot more in the middle and now it's just the top and the bottom with no filling. I am guessing the pinch on the wallet is hurting them worse then we know. No money, no contracts, no signatures.
I think they have WAY overdone the Gretzky/Howe/Orr triple theme. That card used to be a smybol of cardboard greatness back in 2000/01. Now it's like "Really? Again?"
They are going the same route with Gretz/Mess/Mario/Howe.
The Eight cards to me should evoke greatness. And while Oilers and Flames fans will love that card, It should be some of the aforementioned guys and then some. Or how about the two most collected franchises in the NHL, Detroit and Montreal?
That said, the Sevens cards with Lemieux, Orr, etc will be one of the best cards ever!
And finally, the biggest beef I have with this product every year, besides redemptions, is the combo cards.
A few things. If it is team signed triple or something and all players are current and not retired, those cards should pack out, NO excuses. If it it is one of the five, six, seven or eight, those as well MUST pack out unless they get them hard-signed.
You must have your stickers in house UD for those cards. It is ridiculous ANY of those don't go out in packs. If they want to make a combo card a redemption I say they better make the effort and get them hard-signed. I believe all cards in this set should be hard signed anyway as that is what it is noted for.
I'd like to see some of the designs and what stuff actually packs out before passing final judgment. Of course there is always the chance a lot of these cards won't ever be made or cards we don't know about will show up.
Checklists are subject to change. If you notice any incongruities with any checklist, please contact our Customer Service Department so we can update our records.
To me, looks ho hum. I still think Champs will turn out to be their best effort of the season.

Remember, Prime B, that all the autos in SPA are indeed hard-signed. Anything above and likely including a triple will end up being a redemption simply because it's not easy to get a card passed around to 3-8 different folks within a short period of time. Those legends aren't just sitting around UD HQ after all.

Well, I was planning on doing the Marks of Distinction set but seeing that CL of 8 RIDICULOUS players It may be an expensive venture. I'll have to see if I can work some wax magic to even think about it.

Sorry to call you out dude, but you're incorrect. SPA is only hard signed through the quad signature SOTT variations. Anything above THAT is stickers. Stickers do not need to be passed around, they're quite easy to obtain through effort, which UD lacks a lot of.
Here ya go pal.

I stand by my belief that if they are STICKERS, there is ZERO excuse for them not to pack out. Thanks for playing!

What I don't get is Daniel Taylor. Seriously, Daniel Taylor?
I wish they would have gotten Jon Quick to sign some stuff.
Ok, maybe now I'll grab a Boyle or two for the PC.
But I'll defer to you first dude so you can get what you need for the PC.
