Income Tax Expired in 1866
Did you know that the income tax that we pay today was established in 1861 and was suppose to expire in 1866? Read the Revenue Act of 1861 for full details.
The US income tax was established by Abe Lincoln in 1861 to pay for the Civil War and was a flat tax at 3% (unless you lived overseas) and became progressive the following year. It was written to expire in 1866, one year after the Civil War. It was never meant to be a permanent thing, but our government always finds ways to keep temporary taxes and laws permanent.
Isn't it convenient that we still pay income tax today? Most Americans just think income tax has always been around. It was NOT established by our founding fathers and only came about to pay for our Civil War.
So, when Obama and other politicians ask people to pay more tax, he is just raising a tax that should have expired over 140 years ago, but Americans (like today) don't know their history and just assume that income tax has always been there and always will.
I really wish our government would just stick the basics get rid of income tax and all the spending that goes with it. Heck, I would be happy to go back to the 3% flat tax!

There are no laws on the books that state you have to pay income taxes, but you try it out and see how it works out for you! I can't even imagine the first step in getting around it ....
Not working at all? Being self employed and not paying in?

Income tax expired in 1866
You're right...it did expire in 1866, or maybe 1873....but it expired and then was reinstated in 1913
This is the wording of the 16th ammendment, and this is what the IRS will tell you if you decide not to pay taxes...
"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

then it was reinstated nearly 50 years later, keep researching. It was put back into place close to 100 years ago and has not changed since

it was a simple mistake by his part but the problem is he tries to do whatever he can to stick it to Obama and it backfires sometimes. I'm a Republican, I voted for Mccain, I don't really like Obama, but in no way is he doing a bad job, or as bad of a job as a lot of my other party members are trying to make it. Most are just hating just to hate since he's not the guy they wanted
