Did you even read what he said? He said you have the right to defend yourself. In other words, he supports using guns in situations like at Va Tech.
There is a big difference b/w a Va Tech like scenario and the BK scenario. The Va Tech lunatic clearly had motives to kill people and cause chaos. The BK guy was just after money.

I was commenting on the going out of his way portion. How do you know the assailant didn't point the gun at the man? If you weren't there you don't know the situation if he felt his life was in danger then he did the right thing.Hidden Content

by creating more violence and an even more dangerous scenario for the other customers

Or you could look at it as ending the violence before it could escalate.
I personally wouldn't pull my weapon and fire on a robber unless a) I was sure his intent was to take my life and b) he wouldn't get a chance to shoot back.

"If guns were illegal," he says. Ever the ultra-reactionary alarmist, aren't you, Mike? Everyone who doesn't agree with you 100% about 100% of everything is BAD!
Nobody wants guns to be illegal. Nobody who's sane, anyway. The only people who do are the same ones who want to ban smoking and alcohol and meat-eating, and have us all dance around in palm skirts singing Kumbaya. And so far I haven't seen any such people around here, so you might want to take your thinly-veiled bigotry and accusations somewhere that they might reach the nutjobs you're addressing.
Anyway, this is a perfect illustration of why the second amendment is good for the USA. Personally, I think you should shoot to wound before shooting to kill whenever possible, it sounds like it was necessary to shoot to kill in this situation. No one who's sane would ever defend the right of someone else to commit crimes, and no one who's sane would ever tell someone they don't have the right to defend themselves. But Mike as he always does, takes this example of responsible self-defense and thinks, "Hmm, how can I spin this story around to make it about how people who don't agree with me are evil and wrong?" It would be as if I made a thread linking to an article on the US Airways Flight 1549 water landing and said, "Notice how the Republicans in Congress went out of their way to NOT congratulate the pilot for saving all those passengers. They must be pro-plane crashes!"
Way to pervert someone else's bravery for your own corrupt ends, Sunny Jim.

I wasn't there and I don't know exactly what happened...but I did read the article and all it says is this...
The robber entered wearing a ski mask. He approached a clerk, showed his gun and demanded money, said Miami police spokesman Jeff Giordano.
A customer eyed him and the two started arguing. The customer had a concealed-weapons permit and his gun -- and the two exchanged gunfire.
The robber crumpled to the floor and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The customer, with several gunshot wounds, was in serious but stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.
What I take away from that is that the customer tried to do a noble thing...prevent a robbery from happening. Everybody can applaud that. But in trying to prevent Burger King from losing a couple hundred dollars, which insurance would surely cover, he ends up getting shot "several" times and is in "serious but stable" condition today as a result.

I think this is a very good post, but I also think there may be more people who want to make guns illegal than you think. Or maybe you just consider them all insane, which I can't really argue with...

If you don't have a gun or some other means of self defense, then bringing as little attention to yourself as possible generally is the best approach which is what most of the kids at V-Tech did. The person that creates commotion draws attention and thus is dealt with by the intruder/robber/gunman/etc.

If I was told to line up against the wall and the gunmen goes down the line shooting one after another you can bet I am not just going to stand there. It was one person, a mob can take one person out with only a couple getting shot instead of everyone.

Well yeah in a lineup type situation I agree, but I don't believe that is how V-Tech went down.
