Need your opinions
Okay well this happened a few days ago but forgot to make a thread here. I have seen some opinions on another site where a member basically said Turco deserved it.
My question to you: Where do you stand on this? Do you feel it was a dirty hit? Do you feel Turco deserved it by going out that far?
My opinion: This was a hit that really shouldve warranted a suspension. Goalies are allowed to play the puck and not get hit. What does Hordichuk do? He hits Turco on purpose. A goalie like Turco who can play the puck very well helps a team a lot. It's not like all goalies can play the puck as well as Turco. If the NHL wants more scoring then they'd want the goalies to play the puck due to the fact that a goalie can catch a team changing and make a pass leading to a breakaway or odd man rush.Last edited by cnshockey; 03-30-2009 at 03:48 PM.

Hordichuk got off easy, playing the puck like that is what makes Turco good.

The way i look at it, if the goaltender is out of his crease he is just another player. The only way i think a goalie should be untouchable is if you make the crease bigger and tell him he cant leave it.

Hordhichuk shouldn't be hitting Turco even if he was out ( and far ) of the crease.

I always thought this. If a goalie wants to come out of the crease to play the puck then they should be suspected to punishment. Some can make great plays but they should have to think about it when they want to come out. As you said Turco can definitely help his team with pass that can lead to a breakaway.
p.s. Of course do you want goalies to end up injured 24/7 as they become bowling pins? I doubt the NHL as entity wants to see that, or Gm's, and especially goalies.

I figure if Sawchuk and Bower could stop pucks with their face goalies nowadays should be able to take a hit.

That was clean. Only penalty should be on the player who jumped him.
If they truly want to open up the games offense then they should treat any goalie who is out of the blue ice as just another player. You can hit them but within the rules of the game. This way goalies will think twice about leaving the crease to get to a puck that would have been picked up by the attacking team creating an immediate scoring threat.
To those who think a goalie is sacred and should not be hit because they might get injured have your goalies play net instead of defense they are safe on the blue ice. Also if you are worried that your star player may get hurt then why can the other star players such as Malkin, Ovechekin, Thorton ..ECT be hit?

I agree. I am a goalie. **** i'd love to go out and hit somone along the boards. I consider myself fair game when i'm out of my crease. Goalies should not be such wimps.

Agreed and you'll even see goals throw hits but they can't take them? Come on fair is fair

I've always been in favour of them expanding the crease (even double or triple the size.... and include an area behind the net) and telling the goalies that if they leave the blue paint, they're fair game (like anyone else).
That being said.... even with a rule change like that, I'd expect a similar thing to happen. If you've got the guys to hit a goalie, you're going to get jumped. Right or wrong..... that's just how NHLers are going to react.
