A bit out of touch with reality?

So im scrolling through Vanek cards and see a listing with a BIN of $599 and think WOW...this must be an absolutely huge Vanek right?...

Not so much..I mean theyre nice cards but the SPA books at $60, and I think the BD at around $30...high grading is certainly nice but come on...lol

    http://cgi.ebay.com/LOT-OF-2-B-D-SP-...3%3A2|294%3A50

Also, I love how the seller calls the BD a "1/1" because its the only one to be graded a 10. Again, this makes the card desireable but not exactly a $200-300 1/1 lol

And he refers to Vanek as an "offenseman" which may speak loudly in explaing the pricing on this item...

Just made me laugh so I thought Id share lol

Grading is the biggest scam to hit this hobby, IMO.

For vintage stuff, I see the value in it.... but anything that's from 1990 or newer? Don't waste my time, or insult my intelligence. As far as I'm concerned, the only Vanek RCs that wouldn't be 10s.... are ones that people have dinged up when pulling them from packs. Upper Deck should be producing, and packaging these cards in absolute perfect condition.

I realize that '10' may not happen every single time.... but can anyone here honestly say they'd feel worse having that same Vanek grade at a 9.5?? Can most of us even tell the difference?

It's just another way for Beckett (or PSA, etc) to get our money...... and sellers like that to try and get huge premiums on cards that don't really deserve it.

In the seller's defence, he does have a best offer available. There's nothing wrong with aiming for the stars but still leaving people the option of offering significantly less.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

That's true too. Maybe $100-$150 would take the pair, I don't know.

That's it. I don't need to pay one of the grading companies $20 to find out that Upper Deck did indeed manufacture my Crosby YG in Mint Condition. The centering is going to be fine..... the surface should be fine, so should the edges. The corners MIGHT be out of whack.... a little.... becuase I could have dinged them on the way out of the pack.

If you've got a card from the last 20 years..... if there is surface damage, rough edges, or off centering..... I can find a better copy, without too much trouble. I don't need to have it slabbed to tell me it's in mint.

Amen. I wanna see ITG make cards with metal corners so the corners cant get messed up.
