Questions about graded cards

I know graded cards go for more that non graded. I get that. What is this deal about trimmed cards at the bottom once they are graded? I have heard mention but not clear. Also, I gotta be honest, I have some cards that i want graded, but i am scared they would come out with a 6 or 7 thus reducing my opportunities to move them. How much more can you get for a rookie card that is a 6 versus a non graded of the same thing? I would hate to have a card slabbed then it be unmovable.

IMO grading can def hurt the value of a card, if it has a decent BV lets say $120 raw and it grades a 6 that would def hurt the BV and not worth as much, so it is basically your call. Hope that helps:)

If they are vintage cards, then a 6 or a 7 can still be a relatively good thing. Modern cards are another story, as that kind of a grade would likely result in the cards being worth less then their raw counterparts. Depending on what company you want to get your cards graded with, I would recommend reading through their grading criteria and then buying some examples of each grade to use as a point of reference. Its hard to give an accurate self appraisal of the condition of your own cards sometimes, because of how much value is as stake. I've gotten in the habit of subtracting a half point from what I think my cards who grade for prior to sending them off. That seems to be my "grading handicap", and very rarely results in any unpleasant surprises.

Do you mean "trimmed" or "miscut"? If a card is deemed "trimmed", you aren't going to get it slabbed as anything other than "authentic". If it is factory miscut, expect to get about 2 full grades less value upon resale with that sort of qualifier.

Also, just because its graded doesn't mean it is "unmovable", there are many blogs/articles/etc. online detailing how to safely remove a card from a slab.
