Some people
Need to learn about the hobby and let us teach you. Seems like every so ofter, a new person to trading joins and doesn't understand selling and trading. I have helped a few people understand it.. until today. I wanted this card that booked 15. I said, "hey how much for it?" he says, "35" ok.. so i tell him thats 2 times bv and may be bought for like $5. Then he says i am low balling him. So I am being calm, telling him to look at prices and how they go.. and he accuses me of not speaking English probably... don't make it personal... that is ridiculous.. Just trying to help.
Sorry for the vent

Nino,
Well some people truly hate to be told what a card can be bought for. As many of us run into people that say I can get it for such and such on ebay. Well if you want ebay then buy on ebay. Not saying that to you but that what many people think.
Just do as your doing and remain patient as in the end your trying to help build the hobby. Of course there will always be a few people that are hard to deal with. No one should ever criticize ya for your English. Lord, knows that a lot of us in the U.S. don't speak it properly. Hope your feeling better after your rant.

I had occasion (for work purposes) to read abook titled "Getting To Yes". It was all about negotiating and deal making. The #1 point being made in the book is that no one wants to walk away from a deal feeling like they've been had. That applies to negotiating a contract, buying a house, or even a trading card.
When you "low-balled" him with the $5 figure you were, unknowingly, challenging his knowledge as a dealer and his business sense. His defense mechanism kicked in because he could not allow you to win this argument. Unfortunately for him, he did lack knowledge of his trade and resorted to insults. He could have tried to defend his price claiming the card was rarer in that part of the country, or that the player had recently become "hot".
It's a shame, but when a potential deal starts out that badly it's best to just walk away from the start. No way the seller is going to let you have a deal you're staisfied with. He now wants to stick it to you.Hidden Content

What annoyed me was he refuse to look at the facts that on Ebay that is what they go for.. if that. I explain to him that I wasn't low-balling, just doing the norm. But to come back and charge me 2.5 times bv.. doesn't make sense. He then stated how it was his first ever card... I do not care.. I won't buy it for that much just because it is your first haha

agreed.
I recently almost had a purchase. the guy was giving me 2 cards of a price of 15.50 + s/h. he told me he can hold the cards for 7 days. i said ok. the next day i send a pm saying i did some research and i can buy the same exact cards for 4.50 (not ebay). he doesnt recieve the message until the day after that. then he proceeds to go on a rampage saying i broke a breach of contract which is legal i guess. and that he was 'warned' about me? which is not true. i told him everything was fine you still have your cards and you can try to rip someone else off who doesnt research their purchases before buying. which makes him more mad and calls me j**k a** and idiot stuff like that.
so im just wondering if what i did was really in the wrong?

i agree, i rarely buy on here because i get most on ebay. theres no since in trying to convince somebody to lower their sell price to benefit you unless it's a dollar or two

I don't think it was wrong, and it certainly wasn't a "breach of contract".... but at the same time, if you agreed on a purchase price, I can see why the other guy would be ticked off.
I'd suggest doing your research before you negotiate. It sounds like he was charging way too much, so I wouldn't feel too guilty about pulling out of the deal.... but if you get out of deals (after the seller / trader has agreed to hold the cards for you) like that on a regular basis.... some people may start to think that you're not really negotiating in good faith.

There's good and bad in the trading world, luckily the good outweigh the bad most of the time
