this same kind of comment posted over and over again is funny to me. it's like saying "if kane, havlat, sharp start playing the hawks will take the next two games." the same could be said if the hawks "big guns" wake up. it's redundant to even say that.
woulda coulda shoulda. no kidding that if the better players on the team start scoring either team would do better. i have no idea why people keep saying this.

Ok just to settle things down here. Detroit may have drafted some really great players in the late rounds, however they have also drafted some career minor leaguers in the early rounds.
So, another way of looking at it is this.
The picks that turned out great for them were mostly fluke. And the picks where a lot of time and money was spent getting these picks was a complete waste.
In the end it all cancels each other, but one thing is for certain. Detroit can’t be fluky their whole drafting career! If your scouting staff isn’t good enough to pick a sure winner in the first three rounds, you’re going to have problems………….of course not right now though! Haha.
Lastly, they did draft Randy Cameron, so there’s at least one player in their system that I’ll watch some day!
Too early to mention anyone they drafted in the last 5 years, but no one sticks out to me.
Franzen 2004- 3rd rnd-97 overall
Quincy- 2003- 4th rnd-132- LA claims him off waivers, and goes on to score 38pts and minus 5 as the King’s highest scoring defenseman of the 2009 season
Hudler- 2002- 2nd rnd- 58 overall
Fleischmann-2002-2nd rnd-63 overall
Filppula-2002-round 3 #95 overall
Ericsson-2002-round 9 #291 overall
Kronwall-2001-round 1 #29 overall
4th round in 2001, three picks with in four positions, all failures 127, 128, 130
1999- They draft Zetterberg in the 7th rnd, but their three picks before that were laughable.
1998- They draft Datsyuk in the 6th round, again 6 picks before that were terrible choices. Including two picks in a row during round two.
The wings are a great team. Enjoy it while you can!
Great conversation and it killed twenty minutes of my day haha

Sholi,
What team started drafting Russians in bunches before it was fashionable? Now they do it with what country and it paid dividends. All drafts are a gamble as you never know how it going to pan out. The bottom line is and if you wanted to break it down you could find out and waste some more of your day.
Take all the players drafted and see how many games they have played in the NHL. Then you will find out who has a better drafting and scouting department. It might not be the Wings and I truly do not care as both sides are stubborn to not look at the other side. But in the end do you not draft guys that will make a contribute at the NHL level. So perhaps someday someone will do that for us if it not already been done.

also you have to understand with guys like zetterberg, datsyuk, and ericsson (much moreso with ericsson), very few if anyone besides the red wings scouted these guys. The red wings had no reason to take them high because they knew that none of the other teams even knew about these guys.

I was actually thinking that no one took scouted them at all, and when the Wings picked, they looked at the list and said......this guy!
Or is that just Montreal that drafts that way!
