    southeast division gets no respect...

Just bought the newest beckett. Seems all new Eric Staal & Cam Ward cards are commons now. I guess it's better for a collector b/c it will be cheaper to buy on ebay or such. But still, can we get any respect down here? Especially after this years stanley cup run. Other than Pittsburgh, Carolina had the best run going into the playoffs. Plus we had 2 of the most exciting 7 game series EVER, with miracle goals to close the first 2 series.

I guess I just thought there would be more chat about Carolinas "final four" run this year, especially after beating Brodeur, and then beating Boston with their great year. But I guess getting swept in the conference finals is a little embarrassing...

The South East Division gets no respect, because it deserves none. The Canes are certainly the exception to to that rule though, IMO. They have certainly had more success, with more consistency in the last 4-5 years than many teams that get considerably more respect, both in the hockey world, and in the hobby.

Eric Staal is one of the most dynamic power forwards in the game, and would be drawing comparisons to Messier if he played in a traditionl hockey market. He might even be as popular as Crosby if he played in Montreal, or Toronto.

As for Ward, he really is totally underappreciated, especially in the hobby. People who know hockey know he is very good, but collectors just don't seem willing to drop big money on most of his stuff, with a few exceptions.

As a collector you should simply enjoy this. Staal and Ward are obviously two of the best bang for your buck players for the values they get. As Paul said, throw either of them in a different hockey market and what sales triple for each of them. Enjoy the fact you can get a couple of the best in the game for the price.
