What to do...
Ok so as some of you know, I am now in Cleveland for the National Sports collector convention, it's a blast so far and to read my thoughts on the first day, you can check my blog here:
https://www.sportscardforum.com/blog.php?b=469
I walked around yesterday and found a lot of interesting Roy cards...however I am not that rich so I am struggling to decide which ones to get. There is an awesome Ultimate Memorabilia Complete Package one for which the dealer wants $350 (4 different swatches all multicolored), there is an older SOTT auto graded to 8 for which the dealer wants $70, I also found a the cup signature patch one color (burgundy) where Roy is depicted in the Habs uniform and the swatch is a Colorado one, dealer asks for 175$. There is also a BTP GU jersey auto (solid white) numbered to 9 with an asking price of $250. So what would you chose? Would you buy the most expensive one because it's spectacular and an incredible card or would you go for a few lower priced ones?
Opinions please, i barelly slept tonight obsessing about those LOL
Thanks
Karine

I still feel you should go after the lower priced ones and get more cards for your collection for the money...

I agree. On the flight home do you want to sit and look at one card or would you like a hand full to slowly flip through? IMO Get lots
Enjoy the rest of the show

Quality>Quantity. Heres what you do. Rob a bank, buy em all. Ready. Set. BREAK. Don't forget the ski masks.
But in all honestly. Quality>>>Quantity. and ITG>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>UD
Hope this helps

It's good that you slept on it, Karine. The show lasts for, what, 3-4 days? You don't need to make a decision immediately unless you're really worried that somebody else may grab one of the cards in question and thus force you to settle for one of the others. Take the time to scope out the entire scene, take it all in, enjoy yourself. If those cards are still there on the last day, you'll be better able to haggle (which apparently you need to learn to do anyways! LOL) and maybe save yourself a few extra bucks on your purchase. Dealers hate having to load and unload all that stock - money's much easier to transport.
Additional thought: you've come this far already. You don't go on vacation to save money. Go big. Why travel across the Atlantic for an SOTT or Cup card that you could just as easily get on eBay?
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Hey Karine, great to hear from you. I completely agree with RGM81 on this one. Try and negotiate a lower price for some of the cards. The worst they can say is "no". Some people mark up the prices or show BVs for cards so that they have some wiggle room to negotiate.
I also agree to go big since you made a special trip to aquire some PC. Go for the rarer cards since you are less likely to find them anywhere else. I've always been a quality over quantity kind of person.
Good luck!

I would go for the harder to find card. Some of those hard to find cards only come out at the BIG shows. Like some of the others also said, try to talk the price down.
Good Luck and Have Fun

I agree with RGM81 and flemingc04 as well. Also, any NICE Bogosians or Hjalmarssons? Pick em up for me please!
