Beckett pricing doesn't mean that what people tend to pay though. That's one of the misconceptions about Beckett pricing is that they will provide a value for a card, but some people will be a lot less than BV for a card, but for other cards in high demand, people will dig deep into the pockets and shell out the dollars. Use the Beckett as a guide, but also look at Ebay completed lictings, etc.

Beckett says a lot of things about the Habs Centennial set. Very few of them are true.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Beckett provide a range of sales. High Book value is not the card value. It is the high part of the range meaning that few cards sold at that price. The low range is the low part of what cards sold for.
Now beckett get price from various source. eBay will show sale lower then Beckett low price. Reason is simple, ebay auction type can make cards price go very high or sell for really low because it rely on real time demand. In most case with lower end player beckett price are too high and on some high end, they are sometime accurate.
Also remember that beckett pricing always have ton of price input when set come out and even if price drop after, the amount of card selling is much less thus not affecting the over all price. Mainly 1 year after a set it out, you can get card that were selling on ebay at 80$ for 20$. Rarly will you see the book value go down.
So beckett, eBay are source to give you a idea but in no way will it fetch these amount if you decide to sell many card. For intense I collect Carey Price and my collection is over 10,000$ in high BV. If I sell my collection one by one on ebay, I might get 30% maybe more since it would depend how much the high end card would sell for. If I could get 50% for it I would be happy. I could also end up with 20%. You never really know as when you want to sell card and don't have a shop, ebay or site like here are the only place you can sell them and auction type is the only one that can assure you to sell them all.
Low end you can often get them at 20% and lower of high BV on ebay. Middle player will reach 33% and with high end it can reach 100 + %. BV often move in the first six month and stabalise.
eBay is strange at time. With the centennial set a member bought a Guy lapointe habs Ink at 35$ buy it and sold it for 500 a few weeks after. The first seller did not know it was a rare SP. I think they now ask 1600 for it on ebay.
In one word, a guide are only a guide.

Under most circumstances, Luc's exactly right. But on the Habs Centennial they're completely loopy. They have a certain SP'd Habs Inks, which has had 2 sales ever on eBay, listed at $30. The card's two sales have been $1000 and $1200, respectively.
Luckily, myself and another collector are working on creating a database that will provide collectors with a much more accurate guide for Habs fans on this set.
