Fake Patch Talk
Ok I know this is talked about alot but a few things to discuss. When patches are faked alot of times there with bigger and more high-end cards that are turned from 1 color to logo patches. However we have all seen people also turn 1 or 2 colors into 3 colors also with cards such as Peterson Exquisite and SPA, Rodgers SPA, Big Ben SPA, etc. How can you tell if a 3 color patch is faked?

I'm not new to collecting just would like more info. I have heard there is a way to get patches authenticated by Beckett but not sure how.

I do not believe Beckett authenticates patches, how would they be able to? They would have to have scans of the cards from card companies, the companies don't have scans of most, let alone Beckett.
I would think Beckett or any other grading company could refuse to grade a card if they saw evidence of tampering.

Thats exactly what the card companies say. As long as the card doesnt look tampered with then it should be ok. That is pretty much all you can go on except for the obvious ones or if someone had an original scan of the card.

Yeah I'm just wondering because of my AP SPA. I mean anything can be tampered with but I haven't seen any AP's real similar to the patch I have. Obviously doesn't mean it's fake but would like a way to get it authenticated. But alot of times when you get the card in hand if it's tampered right around the patch there will be dings/scratches because the card was handled.

Thats about the only way to tell. If somebody pulls a bland 2 color patch and puts in a sick 3 color patch there is no way to know unless there are dings from the switch.

Just my 2 cents worth. I think that all companies on the higher end products should have pictures of each card. Then when you go to purchase a card be able to go to thier website type in the Serial Number and up pops the card to make sure it is the real thing. Now I do not exspect them to do this with the lower end up atleast save some of us from being ripped off on the mid-higher end.

Donruss is teh only company I know that authenticates Prime Patch cards from 2008-prsent. They use a Kodak traceless ink system. Eash patch has an invisbile ink. They chareg $10 to authenticate if it is real they will place it into a mag holder seal it with a donruss lable, scan teh card to thier file and ship teh card along with a COA.

Yeah I know Donruss can do that. I guess you just have to know what to look for. Mainly the only tampered patches are high-end cards from Exq, SPA, of big stars. Alot of times they fake logos. But 3 colors also. Just got to be mndful and know the types of patches they made for that player in that set.Do your research that is what I do.
