I think this Al guy sums it up best in the response column
Al says
If God didn’t want us to see it He shouldn’t have invented the microscope, or computers or scientists or artists. What the **** is he up to anyway?

I go by the place every now and then when I have time off from classes. The piece certainly is engaging, but I don't see the big deal with it either. Deal with it people...
But Berkeley is Berkeley, there will always be radicals, loonies and people who project their ideologies onto trivial things. From my experience though, a majority of the people here are not like that, at least not the students. You learn to live with the crazy stuff.

That mother of the seven year old is really going to freak out when she sees her daughter building a DNA model out of styrofoam balls, paint, and popsicle sticks.
This mother sounds like she'd from the dark ages. I bet she wants all globes taken out of the classroom because the bible doesn't talk about the earth people round. Does she seriously only use the bible to educate herself and her kids. If she's offended by this I'd hate to see her reaction to a robert maplethorpe exhibit. LOL...

True. I guess the difference is, here more mediums enable that sort of thing, given the history and all. People get sucked into the sort of microcosm of radicalism - albeit these days it is watered down into things like superficial protests and such. I think this causes some people to find anything to complain about, especially in this case.
Besides, a lot of people here actually are crazy hah...
