As I said, the ones who pay the price are the kids. Teachers should be looking at what is important and not their personal interests. Striking just creates a bad taste in the parents' mouths about teachers. If we tried that where I work, we would be criticized in ways that we wouldn't be able to imagine.

Although you are correct, teachers in many places are grossly underpaid where professional athletes are extremely overpaid. Neither could do the others job but whos job plays a bigger role in the future of our country? To be honest, teachers are held to a higher standard than athletes and can lose their jobs far quicker for their actions than athletes. A teacher commits a felony, they never teach again. An athletes commits a felony, many people feel sorry for them and they get their second chance at their career choice.

Absolutely right. There are many jobs where, if you get in trouble, you don't get a second chance at that job. Your second chance has to come in another profession.
My point was just that to compare teaching (or any other profession) to football (or any other sport, actor, etc.) is like comparing apples to oranges.

Aaron Maybin signed today, good for him. He finally realized that if he waits for Crabtree, that he probably wouldn't sign. Just Smith and Crabtree left for draft picks.

True, and this is why teacher's in some states have unions to protect their interests.

And all the more reason the NFL needs a rookie salary structure and cap that takes the lunacy out of the hands of these ridiculous individuals and their greedy agents. Everyone gets a structured deal automatically based on draft position on a 2 year deal and then your performance can dictate your pro contract(s) that follow. Would be the best thing for the league.
