Ideas for creating a card database??

As the title suggests, I've been brainstorming on the best way to create a database of all my cards for ease of referencing what I have as well as for posting trade lists, etc.

I am curious if anyone has any good thoughts on the best approach to this. I was initially thinking of creating a mass spreadsheet with a breakdown by year and set (making sheets within the workbook for years or year/set).

Any input or suggestions would be well appreciated, especially from anyone who has compiled such a database and found a good/efficient/easy to ease method.

    Thanks,
    Zach

I actually just started working on a tradelist using a spreadsheet in Google Docs. That way you can link people right to the spreadsheet and even have links that go right to specific pictures in your photobuckets to show people. Here is mine to look at at the moment, its still being worked on

just make sure you set the preferences so that people cant modify it except you. Also you can export the spreadsheet to MS Office or Open Office formats for backing it up. And it keeps a changelog so you can turn back time!

You could also make a database in MS Access. It si greta for this kind of thing because you can then do a lot of reporting on (how much is your collection worth, when you bought the most cards, how many mint condition or graded cards you ahve etc). You can also link the forms to pictures of the cards as well.

I would recommend using Access. You can create forms for easy data entry and then you can create reports like dxco00 said that you can customize any way you would like.

I have been frustrated with the Beckett database since they changed it. I've given up using it. I like the idea of the Google speadsheets.
