i used to use the beckett database but half the time i went to change or update it the thing was down or was incredibly slow. So then it got out of date because i forgot to change it because it was down and it just turned into a mess.

Thanks for the input everyone- keep it coming!!

I've had a little experience with Access, and do know that it would be more practical/functional for what I'm looking to do, but I am not comfortable with it for creating data imput forms and creating reports.

Excel is easy to use, but its functionality is limited compared to Access.

Any pointers on using Access for this application would be greatly appreciated- I know I've got an Access book around here somewhere (probably packed away in the depths of the attic with other text books..)...perhaps I'll run up to the library and see what I can find.

I've been meaning to write something in Access for this..... for years now, and never seem to get around to it.

I guess it's really a matter of what you need. If it's keeping track of want lists / trade lists / have lists....... excel is just so much quicker / easier, and does the trick.

If you're getting into storing information about 1000s of cards, and want to be able to generate reports based on players, years, sets, type of cards, haves / needs, etc..... once you're all finished Access will certainly give you a better product.

Spreadsheet is much easier but it's more a way of listing. Access is a real database but much more complex as you need to understand how to create a table and later how to query it for the result you want. For intence you can set card attribute by having a yes/no autograph field etc.. and later create a report by using those card attribute.

I coded on my site, exactly what I needed because I am a programmer. It's better then anything on the market but like everyone, I end up with a visibility problem. No one see my card unless they follow a link on my signature. But I know exactly how many cards I have and the book value. I can query things like only auto, jersey etc.. made my own trade manager to follow my trade, I can evaluate a big trade since I have coded a feature that let me select cards from both side and get card value.

But in the end, even if it's easy for me to enter my cards, it always come back to visibility. This is why I tried to bring this here as coding application for all members would have mean easy enrty for all members and then easy to shearch all members cards and find what you want.

Unfortunatly I have step down this week because things did not work out with the owner. Badge should be removed soon.

Maybe one day I can find a way to bring this to all collectors who wish but not sure how I would do it. One things is sure, I am disappointed this could not work out here since it would have been a ideal place to do it.

Might just decide to build a EXE that collector can have at home and let the application create a web page that a user can use to update a personal site. This way I would be totaly independent and would not have to rely on anyone. Also because it would not be a actual trade site. I might be able to talk about it whithout being ban from sites.

The thing always come to money. no one want to loose what they have and it tough to stand out as ppl will see you as a competitor. But maybe one day this will happen in one form or a other.

I wrote a database in Access to manage my collection. It's not completely done but it's getting close. When it is I think I'm going to release it on here for everybody to use.

cool, I built myself a database too. It works really good for just inventory purposes, but I want to be able to track my sales and buys. I got something set up, but I think it still needs a lil work. How did u set up ur trade manager?

I'd be willing to share my database on here to give people an idea of what I got goin and maybe even use it themselves.

    thanks,

I am is currently coding a major card manager for SCF. Mainly we have a plan to write many old application and create just one big one that has module but they all talk to each other.

So we do plan to go live sometime this year with a inventory and a store front along with a online price guide that should follow not long after. I work on this full time and we are getting close to enter a beta phase to test all that is coded. I think you will like it.

I am currently working on a little EXE that will run from a database and keeps track of my master list for my collection. Ive only been working on it in my spare time these last few weeks and I like some of the ideas that are on here.
