But you don't need to "see" 5 sales before to state a value of a card #/25. Moreover, eBay is a good way to "create" a sale, then people think a card worth "$X" if auctions ends at "$X". Moreover, we cannot see the highest bidders... how many times we see a valuable card supposely sold, then it is back on eBay few weeks after by the same seller? On many occasions. For example, take any rare card, like a Patrick Roy ITG Complete Package #/10 card (Between The Pipes, ITG Ultimate Memorabilia, etc.)... even before it is offered somewhere for sale we already know the range of value low/high columns for a card like this. This hobby isn't big science, the pattern is always the same year after year, and it is pretty easy to predict a low/high value before to "see" a eBay sale if you know a specific market of this hobby. There aren't tons of cards shows, you have the Toronto Expos twice a year, the Nationals, and the regional card shows. Always the same dealers, always the same group of high-end collectors, this hobby is small even on a worldwide perspective. We all know a Ron Francis card, even a NHL Shields Auto 1/1 card, will never surpass the $500 cash level, unless you match him with Gretzky on the card!

So in the case of cards not listed because of print run why not just print the actual sale prices of these cards each month. That way collectors can decide for them selves what a good price would be.

Beckett is only a guide.On some ebay auctions if you get the right bidders on the right day you may get way over Price guide value.An example of this is I had a 02-03 UD Behind the Mask Andy Moog SP jersey card that Books for 20 HI.And that day my auction ended I lucked out and had 2 people that wanted that card.It ended at a mind blowing $49.Then you may get a BV $20 card for 99 cents.There is really no set value for a card it all comes down to what someone is willing to pay for what they want.Beckett is only a GUIDE people have to remember that.It comes in handy for trading but not for selling.

Unless Beckett gets bought out by someone who actually has an interest in improving it, and preferably also someone who has a real interest in the hobby, it will continue to decline. I have to think within a few years it could even be bankrupt.

On a side note, there is an online magazine (as noted by others, no pricing yet though) produced by SCF, and I would highly recommend Insider's Edge magazine, which actually has a pricing section on new releases now.

Great to know of another person from the lindsay area! Where did you buy your Beckett from until now? The only place I bought the Beckett from in Lindsay was from the magazine and smoke shop in the Lindsay Square Mall, but they are closed now. Where else can you buy them in Lindsay?

Always amazing how members can be so close and not know it. Hopefully, you all possibly hook up for in person trades. I remember one member who traded with others buddies at a donut shop. Always, looked forward to his Donut Threads of recent pickups.

Beckett still makes a magazine? Wow, haven't bought one in years. I'm sure every book value is exactly what it was then.

Beckett online is at least useful for inventorying purposes, even though they're months behind in listing new sets which makes me mental. Unfortunately for them, anyone that wants to guage "current" prices only searches completed listings on eBay and it's done. Beckett is, in terms of setting prices, utterly irrelevant. They artificially inflate prices upward, that are really only good for establishing trading value as being equal or not between two traders. As someone else said, though, with the real key pieces now being very, very limited, it would be impossible for them or anyone else to really say what a card with a run of 10 or less is actually "worth" - I've paid more than a card is "worth" many times, just to have it, and other times won't pay more than 1/3. Basically, for what it costs, I would say to get online pricing if you need inventorying for your collection, and don't worry about the mag unless you like to see photos of big pulls (which, admittedly, I do).
