Ray Shero on His Father, an Icon
By Adam Gretz
Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Ray Shero was kind enough to spend nearly an hour on the phone with FanHouse's Adam Gretz discussing a variety of topics. This is the first of a three-part series that will run throughout the remainder of the offseason. Wednesday's entry: Ray Shero discusses the impact his father -- former player and Stanley Cup winning coach Fred Shero -- had on the game of hockey, as well as Fred's chances for induction in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

I had the opportunity to meet Fred Shero. The 74 and 75 Flyers were a great team. Yes they started goon hockey but they still had to play pure hockey during the playoffs and beat a Bruins team with Orr and a Sabres team with the French Connection line. They had 50 goal scorers in Leech, Macleash(sic). Bobby Clarke was the ultimate captain and they had a HOF goaltender in Parant. Shero developed these players and he deserved to be in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Nice to see someone that truly remembers them as it was before my time.
