08/09 The Cup Dual Autographed Shields Redmeptions: Questions?

A local hobby friend of mine has two of these cards in his queue he is waiting on and we had a little chit chat today about them.

I told him I would throw some stuff out to the hobby "community" for feedback.

I know, to date, every one of these redemption shield cards has been made each year. And I think that trend will continue, otherwise UD would get probably get lynched for the price some of the redemptions are bringing in. Add to that the fact it is usually player collectors picking these up as the highlight(s) of their PC.

I have a few questions though and would like feedback:

This year it seem ALMOST all of the auto shields are redemptions? I have only seen about 3 or 4 live? Why is that?

Plus there were/are a ton of unchecklisted shields showing up? I have never seen a shield unchecklisted before? Is this because UD wanted to add a bunch of last minute value to The Cup?

Which leads me right into this last question: Were these unannounced cards made with the original auto shields or do you think all of the auto shields will be made together at once and then shipped once signed by the respective players?

If they still have to make the physical cards I think that would mean most people will wait 8-9 months like last year with the rookie subsets that were "added" as extra value after UD forgot to put the rookies in the subsets.

The Vanek/Miller dual auto shield last year was a unchecklisted card and truthfully never asked the seller if it was a redemption or live if they pulled. I am guessing the shield card may have been printed after the limited logo and other sub sets were sent out and that is what the redemptions are about.

Marcel, is this Vanek card you are referring to 07/08 or 08/09?

Have you ever seen the card? And when did it show up? During the Cup's release or long after?

07-08 and I am thinking about 9 months later. Still have not seen the dual shield of Vanek/Roy that I am sure me and Jacktheripper will kill each other over. I am kind of wondering that maybe the Miller/Vanek replaced the Roy/Vanek cause have not seen it and Roy has not had to many jersey cards.

So why did they delay this years cup if most if not all shields are redemptions ? for such an high end product anything but the shields should be live.

I agree, which is why I think they were added as an afterthought or not produced yet because even most of the cards actually listed on the UD website checklist didn't pack out.

Not all past years Cup dual auto shield redemptions have been fulfilled. I still have the Higgins/Latendresse from 06-07 in my bucket.
