Card shops without hockey?
I was driving through Greenwood Indiana last June, not exactly a hotbed of hockey fandom by any means, and came upon a card shop. Figured I'd stop in and pick up some loose packs, the Cup finals were starting and wanted to share the excitement. The store was pretty well stocked, no other memorabilia other than cards, glass cases of singles, shelves and shelves of boxes; tons of baseball, football, basketball, racing (of course), golf but... I couldn't find what I was looking for. Asked the owner where his hockey section was. "Oh I don't carry any hockey. Sorry."
I never would have thought it in a million years. Not even a token box of Ultra, not even a Brodeur rookie with a $25 sticker, no 2006-07 UD II leftovers, nothing!
So what's your experiences? Ever come across a store that shuns hockey?
The kid picked two packs of Pokemon and we bid the guy a good day.

It's all about demand - Right now, I'm living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and there is a huge fanbase for Bluebomber memorabila (CFL team). Back home in St. Catharines, ON., you're a lucky man if you can find anything OTHER than hockey. Not that I'm complaining, but I would love to pick up a Jays auto for my PC. I have yet to find a LCS that has had one single Jays auto.
I'd be in a rough spot if I collected basketball, that't for sure. Armadillo - if you ever get a chance, come visit us. You'll love the oppportunity to pick up virtually any set!

I know this experience all too well. My local card shops just acquired new management and the first new change was no hockey. I was referred to the
local Target store that carries blasters and then the internet.
If I wanna visit a card shop, I would have to travel almost 90mins, FOWL.

Well I don't think it gets any worse than KY on hockey at any professional level PERIOD. So go to card shows, card shops, etc. and you end up seeing 99.9% non hockey stuff.

It's all about demand, I guess.
Obviously the guy in Indiana doesn't think he can sell it.
Like others have said, up here in Canada, you almost never see NFL or NASCAR cards.

I just got back from the book (B&N) store wanting to find some prices of older Hockey inserts so I sell cheap or for cc, but there is no books or price guilds for hockey at all. Card shop owner has never carried any Hockey anything. He said he cant even say most of the player names anymore. Online price guild will not help in a lot of cases. Some are on E-Bay but whats a guy to do?

Not really all that surprised.
It's like Baseball here (and I'm about an hour away from Toronto). You see a little bit of it, but not a whole lot.
These guys are running a business. Why are they going to take up shelf space for NHL, when the MLB, NFL, and NBA stuff all sell much better?
