Different Angle Question on the "You Lie" Incident

    Hey guys,

I was thinking over some comments people have made, myself included, about the Joe Wilson/President Obama deal and it got me thinking. We all pretty much felt Wilson was out of line and disrespectful but...How much respect does being President get you?

My question has nothing to do with right/left, republican/democrat, etc. If any president is giving a speech in front of congress and is lying, do the members of the house or senate have a right to say something in that public forum? Now, I don't think it should be like Britain and have open dissent to everything you disagree with, but if the President is actually lying, does anyone have the right to say anything. Or, does the title of president earn you the "respect" of being able to basically say what you want carte blanche?

I know it won't last, but not trying to start a party line debate, just thought it was an interesting question. thanks

I think there is an aspect of the question that some people are missing. What about the astonishing amount of speeches. Its not like Obama was saying anything profound and new. He was just saying the same old stuff that he says every single day. he has given more speeches than days he has in office. I think this is also different because there is no direct debate. Obama can stand up there and repeat the same old garbage day in and day out without it being challenged. The media refuses to ask the tough questions, so things go unchallenged. Now we find out that Wilson was right and obama was telling more lies. even after that, there is still no discussion. The Obama Media monopoly is unfair and unAmerican. It cant be regulated, so some other things may have to change. There may need to be more public debate without the rules that make it too easy to twist the truth.

I think the problem was the forum the statement was delivered in as opposed to what the message was.

My biggest problem with it was where the statement was made. It was an address to Congress. I never agreed with anyone saying anything during a presidential address.

How is this any different from any other president? In fact, the same same thing could be said about Bush
