They did well because the collective offense of the National League is inferior to its American League Counterpart.
So is Greg Maddux a baby because he preferred not to throw to Javy Lopez? Burnett didn't even go public with this Posada stuff. He got upset in-game, Girardi made a public announcement that Molina would be catching Burnett (Girardi's decision), and Burnett comes out as a baby?
And I'm not talking about low-level pitching. I'm talking high-grade collegiate ball and up. Catcher's make a big difference on multiple levels.

Mauer hit a double but your okay with that call... So how bout you dont complain because the Yankees have gotten the benefit of the doubt most of the time.

Yes maddux is a baby too if he complained, but i never saw any of that. The Yankees need Posada's bat in the lineup but since Burnett doesnt want to throw to him they make him happy by putting in someone who isnt posada

Posada's bat is great for a catcher. His defense is horrendous. The team is better off with a catcher AJ is comfortable with behind the plate than an uncomfortable AJ with Posada's bat in the lineup.
AJ has great stuff (not accuracy, but stuff)... but he's a mental midget. He lets stuff get to him that shouldn't get to him. He's the anti-Rivera. Even with all that, he's still a very good pitcher, and the Yankees are better with him than without him.
Greg Maddux had a personal catcher for as long as I can remember. And at the time, Javy Lopez was one of the best offensive catchers in the game.
