Anyone else notice the CLASSIC Points Standings?

After Talladega, they'd look like this:

    1) #48-Jimmie Johnson, 4752
    2) #14-Tony Stewart, 4745, -7
    3) #24-Jeff Gordon, 4673, -72

    Just something to think about....

Nothing but good news for you, I'm still happy with an 8th place finish.

I'm just making the point that NASCAR claimed the Chase would tighten up the standings and make the Championship so much more interesting, when in fact, it'd be much more interesting the old way.

I expect NASCAR to re-look at the setup they currently have. The chase has been a disaster from the beginning. Many of the team owners complained because the chase would be basically about the 12 drivers, and that the cars and sponsors who did not get into the chase would not get any ad or TV time. This has happened. The rest of the field, with notable exceptions such as Jr., Kyle Busch, and a couple of others, have been looked over drastically. Also, as was noted above, if ONE accident happens, you are virtually out of the running. I think it was jayski who used to put up the points from the old system, and yes there would have been changes in the past. If memory serves me correctly, I think even Jeff Gordon would have won his fifth title, and taking away the streak that Jimmie now has. The Chase has also caused problems with speedway owners due to certain tracks that the Chase is currently part of. Some tracks such as California speedway has problems getting fans in the seats. During a "CHASE", you should be making sure that ALL seats are filled, and raced in the markets that can handle the "Chase". But what do I know, I am just a regular NASCAR fan that is somewhat upset with the way the sport has gone. But it is what it is, and "IT" isn't working.

yeah but this is the way it is and JJ and Chad do it better than everyone else-based on old points my guy was the champion last year, JJ would have 1 championship, and I think Gordon would have 6. But its not the way it is and JJ and Chad have officially stunk up the show for the last 4 years haha. I like the Chase-it provides some more interest late in the season-I dont like someone dominating it-particularly them-but the rest of the field needs to figure out how to beat em. No problem with the points system-it is what it is.

Carl wouldn't have won it last year, if the circumstances were different. He wouldn't have pushed it at Homestead, among other things.

The points system sucks, never liked it. Now they have thrown consistency out the window for 26 races. Jimmie Johnson doesn't have enough fan fare to be able to win 4 championships in a row and it not hurt the sport.

The Chicago Bulls did it b/c Jordon was so liked, all teams who have won many championships in a row always have at least one well liked athlete or the city has a strong following and there is enough people who represent a decent majority of the fans. Jimmie doesn't have that and I don't think will ever have that. Not his fault but that is the way it is. He doesn't have a strong following of fans or haters really, nothing that makes alot of "noise" one way or the other.

NASCAR is loosing money everyday, companies are still leaving, top programs can't find sponsors, no one hardly likes the cars anymore, don't like the points system, TV ratings are mostly going down, races are getting harder and harder to fill, and now.. Jimmie is going to win his fourth championship in a row which is definitely making people not want to watch b/c what is the point? You had a glimmer of hope w/ Martin in the hunt for the championship but now that is gone! As much as some might hate Dale Jr. with him doing so poorly it has maybe given the biggest hit to the sport, he has that much fan fare. I watched about 50 laps of Talladega and that is about the most I watched of any race in the chase. I am of course a Dale Jr. fan with nothing happy to cheer for but I am also a Stewart fan and after all his points taken away for the chase I just couldn't help thinking that is not fair. Give points for wins but don't take away so many for the season leader.

I don't even like watching anymore, I never thought I would say that in the last 15 years at least. I use to turn the race channel for a football game maybe but now I am changing to watch non-sports shows as well as football. It just isn't that fun. I am going to watch Daytona next year and see how I feel but NASCAR and Brian France have really just turned me off of the sport in general. I thought that was impossible but there just seems like there is no parity and sports do well when there is parity, that doesn't always happen but usually it isn't this bad.

    Thanks,

    Jami

The drivers in the chase should be scored 1st-12th points no matter where they finish in the race. It would keep the chase tight & interesting.
