Gay Marriage - A minority view?
Maine is the first state to overturn a legislative gay marriage law. I found this point very interesting:
Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont are the only U.S. states where a same-sex marriage law is on the books. In each instance, the laws were approved by legislatures and judges, not by popular vote. Not a single state has every had gay marriage approved by the people. When the people were giving the chance to vote, 30 out of 30 states voted against gay marriage. Only five states have approved same-sex marriage BUT that is only because the politicians and judges approved it.
Citizens in some 30 states before Maine voted against same-sex marriages.
So, when given the voted Americans rejected same sex marriage 100% of the time. Once again it is politicians (mostly Democrats from what I can tell) going against what Americans want and pushing their own, unpopular agenda on the American people. But don't worry, change is on the way!

I think its sad that a different life style isn't accepted and their unions aren't recognized.

Come on mike don't you know that Government knows best!!
I agree with the Government this time. I've got two gay sister in laws and various gay friends ... and I feel for them!

Personally, I really don't have an opinion either way. I'm not religious and for the most part I'm against the government telling people what they can and can't do in their own home. My problem is with the government passing laws that the people simply do not want.

Here's a great example of what I'm talking about ....
My sister in laws are gay, both have partners. Their father who is 63 accepts it but does not for one minute like the fact they are gay and when the vote came up here in Florida he voted against it. His choice, sure but come on man you have two gay daughters and you say that "as long as their happy, that's all that matters to me" but do you really mean it!?!?!?!
Meanwhile he is married to a 29 year old woman who was formerly his daughters best friend in high school ....
Where's the morals and values eh???
Look I'm all for limited involvement by Government but IMO this was a great step in by them and it's about **** time. We live in a world where people are still shunned due to their race, religion, creed and sexual preference. This is the 21st Century people it's time to wake up and get smart, stop living in the 1900's and let people do as they please!

I look at marriage as a religious thing. I think there should be "legal unions" that give gay couples equal rights under the law (for taxes, wills, etc). I just think it is the right of religious organizations to define marriage since they came up with it. This is my belief and I'm atheist!

If states didn't issue marriage licenses and if certain gov't. positions couldn't marry people I would agree. Since the states are involved I believe gay couples should seek recognition besides legal unions.

Legal Unions schmooonions, a marriage is a marriage is a marriage plain and simple, I don't give two sheets what a church say's or doesn't say is "religous". Since when did the church gain so much power as to tell people what is right and wrong? This is what is wrong with America ... too many people following the word of other people instead of choosing and thinking for themselves!
Here's a great one. My wife was previously married, so when we went to get married the church tells her "oh your marriage was never annuled and you will need to pay us $250 to have that marriage annuled".
I literally laughed at the priest of that church and told them "thanks but no thanks, she's divorced in the eye of the law and that's all that matters, maybe we'll just go get married on the beach somewhere" and that's exactly what we did! We flew to Jamaica and got married on the beach!!

Exactly dfr52 ... I can go to my local courthouse and get a "Marriage license" not a "legal union license"
