    Spence:

I have a color-coded spreadsheet for my Chris Douglas-Roberts collection, and I fill the card listings using Beckett and company checklists (Beckett is not complete, lacks a few parallels and things). It works pretty well, I have different tabs for different card companies, and have a color for incoming and a color for haves. I also use it to track the serial numbers. It's a handy document. For KG it would take a loooong time though. But I fully endorse the spreadsheet method.

WOW, that sounds great. I wish I was a better typer as KG has over 5000 now. I was thinking of doing an Excel for them, still a lot of data entry.

Why not do something like Dan suggested/does and do a spreadsheet of the ones you do have? It would always be a living document, so you could do a handful here and a handful there until your collection was logged. Plus, you can keep it as general or as detailed as you want.

Yeah, I'm thinking about it, but I probably have 700-800ish. Nathan is getting nervous about that, lol. I wish I did what he did and did it as I got them. Instead I'm left with a sorting mess and inventory mess as well.

It does take time, believe me. I'm probably going to set out on a similar endeavor over the winter with my Martin Brodeur collection. They are logged into Beckett, but I'd rather have them closer at hand, and in a way I'd prefer to have them set up.

Think of it as quality times with your collection! It definitely is like getting them all over again. Nice to get refamiliar.

Haha...didn't realize you had that many! Now I'm shaking in my boots! Wait...I'm not wearing boots! lol

Best way for me was to sort them by year, then alphabetize them by year...much more organized, and you can copy and paste if you have alot of 2006-07 Topps cards, or whatever...being able to paste the first 10-15 letters saves an amazing amount of time, and you could do that with Topps, Topps Chrome, Topps Turkey Red, Topps Luxury Box, etc, etc, etc.

I do one thing with my autos, patches and GU, I scan all of them into my bucket. This way I can visually reference them to see if I have them or not for a trade. If you like KG check it out.

Yeah, shake away. I have 5 800 count boxes of base/RC/inserts. I just did the first round of sorting out the dups, I got a box of dups so far and probably another box or so to go. The are all in sleeves though so maybe 600 to a box.

    lol

Once you get them sorted by year (after pulling out the dupes), which will take an hour or so if you are quick/know the year by the look, then just type them up one year at a time...the time that takes is next to nothing...maybe 15-20 minutes per year...and if you do it over his 15 years, it'll seem to go by so fast...did for me, at least, when I redid my tradelist a few months back.

Also, when you finish typing them all up, LMK and I'll send you a list of my dupes, and send you what you need...you've helped me out before, and I'd like to return the favor! Just don't want to send you a bunch of cards you already own ;-)

You make it sound so easy. I've already spent 1/2 a day on it already. You must be both a speed typer and spelling bee champ LOL. This project is going to kill me yet. I just want a list where I can just check things off. I guess I'm a man of leasure at heart, LOL.
