Hey do you think Al Montoya has a shot as a starter in the nhl or even a chance of making the coyotes? He was hyped a lot then kinda died off

I think he has a shot but remember he ended up behind Henrik which is a great goalie. That why the move to the Yotes was good for him and they called him up to the NHL unlike if he was stuck in New York. They are still giving him the time in the AHL so he get plenty of playing time.

he played in 5 games for them last season and went 3-1 with one SO and allowed 9 goals against. I think he's got a legitimate shot at it

He has a legitimate shot at being a starter. Just needs to sharpen his skills in the AHL for a couple years.

I LOVE al montoya. I've watched him since he was playing WJC for USA and playing at Michigan. He had no shot in NY and just got screwed over this year with the signing of LOLbarbera. I could see him being a backup for now but not a starter

here is his problem;
he has a job where their are only 30 starting goalies in the NHL. yes their are 30 backups as well but you want young guys to get playing time so he is in the AHL by default. here is a bit of a breakdown on why their are so many goalies who do not make it.
60 goalies in the NHL.
180 defencemen in the NHL.
360 forwards in the NHL.

I just thought it would have had a chance with the coyotes by now. At least splitting time. I remember Maxim Ouellet (Remember him) was in a similar situation with Washington. He got stuck in minors and then just lost the edge after bouncing around with different teams.
What do you think Montoya's trade value would be now to a team like the leafs for example?
