shipping within Canada
dont know if this is common knowledge or not
but a little while ago i spoke with a postie who informed me that i could
buy a 6 lot of bubble envelopes at the dollar store, the real small ones, (i think they're smaller than the size O) and ship within Canada for only a 54 cent stamp. with one card in a toploader they barely fit thru the the little plastic window that denotes regular letter mail. one game used card / two regular thickness cards will fit weight and size requirements.
has cut my postage in half

I'd like to hear more about this.
Could you tell me the thickness of these small packages? They would have to be less than 5 mm thick to go with only a 54 cent stamp.
I think one card + a top loader is already 2 mm thick, so it would only have to be 1.5 mm of bubble on each side.
Cheers,
reoddai

I have tried this. It sometimes works but they have also come back to me insufficient postage. It was about 50/50 so it is a bit of a risk.

I almost always pay $1.18 for shipping in Canada, but on a few occasions the staff have told me that I could ship cheaper because I have a thinner envelope. I think out of those times, I have only had one returned with insifficient postage.
If you were told you could ship for $0.54, do you usually buy a $1.18 stamp or something in between? I'm used to paying $1.18 for shipping in Canada and $1.96 to the US.

Are you talking about the bubble mailers that are about the size of a standard envelope? There is just enough room in one of them for a top loaded card. I've used them to mail single card trades, using standard envelope postage. I think they are safer than using a PWE.
Only once has it come back indicating insufficient postage. Maybe I've been lucky so far.

I tried that before and I lost a couple of packages. The lady (hot too) told me that the reason it got lost is because the package is too small.

I have done the 54 cent stamp at the post offices suggestion before and they have come back. There is a about 70/30 chance of it getting through

well i have a convenience store just down the road (beside the dollar store lolol) and i always take my envelope in and she checks it out, runs it thru that little plastic hole thingy and then she weighs it. i have sent out several and not one has come back or been lost. the envelopes are made by selectum and are 4X8 inches. i get 6 in a pack for a buck.they are smaller than the ones walmart sells at size O. you can literally only put one thin topholder in them. i also send em to the states at 1.18 canadian. same convenice store same lady. and they are great protection wise.
