Canada Post Rate Increase Effective 1/11
Hey everybody, just got back from dropping off 6 mailers at the post office, and I've got some bad news: Canada Post is increasing their rates again! The lady wasn't able to give me the exact amount, but I did a little digging around...
Standard bubble mailer up to 100g: $1.22
Bubble mailer over 100g (for those bigger trades!): $2.00
To the US:
Standard bubble mailer up to 100g: $2.00
Over 100g: $3.50
It's nominal, only 4c more but it does add up pretty quickly.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I'm assuming those rates only apply to mailers that will fit through the slot?
Those rates still aren't brutal...... but as soon as you go out of their dimensions of what is a 'letter' vs a 'parcel' it's robbery.

Yeah it's important to keep the package thin enough to fit in the slot (that's what she said) or else you end up paying $10 to ship.

It also will give ebay sellers an excuse to charge an extra quarter for shipping.

The lady at the post office told me about this as well. Apparently there are going to be more categories (weights and sizes) for bubble envelopes to fall under which could be more frustrating (keep in mind that is unconfirmed). With these increases I could only imagine more increases in July once the HST kicks in (new for Ontario residents).

lol.
It's really sad. I was at the post office today, sending out cards from a trade I just made. I used three bubble mailers, instead of one parcel, for the same trade. The woman working asking me why I'd mail them like that.... it creates more work for everyone (including me, the sender).
Then I pointed out that 3 bubble mailers still cost about half of what a parcel would.
