Dominique Wilkens had a good point about how it would be better if the top players (superstars) were in it. Maybe they are afraid of it affecting their legacies if they perform badly as he said. Or perhaps they are afraid of getting injured.
The best dunk contests ever were when he and Jordan went at it in the late 80's.

Has there ever been an injury in a dunk contest ever? (including college, other leagues, streetball etc)
These stars need to stop being girly and play! And be more creative! I'm not talking about jumping over cars or something, but goodness, yesterday was a disgrace!!

No where not acting like the world is ending, its just that the event is so hyped up and the players hype it up as well, i feel like they didnt even try(with the exception of DeRozan) he genuillaly looked he wanted to be there
i just dont understand why Brown and Wallace accepted the invation to dunk if there not gonna even try, why dont they just decline and let someone who actully wanted to be there dunk....
thats all im sayin, can the players have some respect for the fans

I agree with you, except for the best dunk contest i ever seen and that we will ever see ( that can not be topped) is vince carter! No one will bring that type of showman style dunks again! The best of all time in my book

good points everyone - there has never been an injury in a dunk contest that I can remember. Though I do remember Blake Griffin's dunk in a preseason game where he sustained a stress fracture (from landing hard) in/on his kneecap that has cost him his whole rookie season. Hopefully he can recover 100% (these days he should be able to with the advanced surgical techniques).

That was great too and I was thinking of that as well but still think the late 80's battles were a little better (hard to say though). I remember watching that. McGrady was in that too and (if I recall correctly) gave Carter a hard bounce pass off the floor for one of his dunks (the between the legs one?)Last edited by wrafman; 02-14-2010 at 05:51 PM.

I agree in theory that yeah it's one event, it sucked, it's over, get over it, but...
For some of us older guys we grew up on this stuff since the 80's.
We expect so much each February and were rewarded with so little this year that yeah, it does seem like the world of dunk contests/electrifying all-star weekend events has ended.
