    Basketball records

Another member mentioned D. Howard's record in a different thread, which made me think of a (good?) thread idea.

Post a basketball record and discuss if you wish:

    Most points in a game:

    1. Wilt Chamerlain - L.A. Lakers - 100 - only player to ever score 100 points in a game - incredible feat

    2. Kobe Bryant - L.A. Lakers - 81 - a few years ago against the Raptors - he was on fire that night

I've seen a couple threads in the past on this topic in the past. It's always fun.

Artis Gilmore - Career shooting percentage .599. Even with that unbelievable career number, he's still not in the Hall of Fame.

Funny that you should mention him. Didn't know he had that record. I just saw an article on NBA.com where they interviewed him and mentioned that they were suprised he was not in the hall of fame.

#3 would be David Thompson with 78 points, I believe.

How about most assists in a game - 30 by Scott Skiles.

And Artis Gilmore should most definitely be in the HOF - hitting 6 out of every 10 shots is not an easy feat!

Agreed. That is true at any level, especially at the NBA level. Here is one I posted in the wrong section a while ago.

Most 4 point plays - Jamal Crawford replaced Reggie Miller as the all-time leader with 24 4-point plays

That is a crazy record to hold...absolutely insane!

How about most blocks in a game (17, Elmore Smith)? It's an amazing feat when Dwight blocks 8 in a game...that's less than half of Smith's record!

Jamal Crawford is also one of the few current NBA players (Kobe, Brandon Jennings, etc..) to have a 50+ point game (A. Miller's recent one was counting his overtime points)

that block record is also an insane record!(had no idea he had it - would have guessed Russell or Chamberlain).

Dwight might come close but I can't see him getting that one.

Lebron would be another recent 50 point game (last season, I believe).

Blocks weren't a stat kept until the 70's, I don't believe - same with steals.
