    Buy Back Autos

Would buy back autos hold the same value as a regular auto from a set? I mean wouldn't buy back autos be easier to forge opposed to something that is certified.

    From what I've seen:
    - buy back autos have a hologram sticker stuck on them after they're signed to know that they're buy backs;
    - buy back autos have limited runs (like less than 25???), so they are more expensive.

That being said, I've seen a lot of autos on ebay without any sticker that claim to be buy backs. I suspect a lot of them are fake, like you said.

Very good points - I like buyback auto's but there are the above issues that you have to think about it. Buyback cards also are not usually in gem mint condition because they are buybacks (not newly produced cards) and thus have been handled more.

To add to what LMC said...
A lot of times in the same pack as the buyback came a separate 'certificate of authenticity card' which was also holo-gramed & numbered.
Rarely have I seen matching pairs for sale though.

Not sure why people would ditch the 'cert' but...
People have also been known to take uncirculated/box-toppers out of their factory slabs!

Some people fake the buybacks and then just say they lost the extra card that certifies it. I'm not a huge fan of them...

    Exactly!
Never owned one and probably never will...
The lamest are the buybacks that are just hand numbered, not even signed.

Buybacks also usually come with a certification card.

Buybacks are nice sometimes. They allow you to get some unique cards you otherwise would not be able to like this Ron Mercer auto I have of him in a Bulls uniform. He actually has no other certified auto of him in a Bulls uniform that I know of. But just makes sure you get the matching hologram certificate that comes with the card. Legitimate Buybacks with their certification cards are usually worth more because they are rarer.

that Ron Mercer is nice. I've also seen some buybacks that get embossed instead of a hologram, which I prefer.

I was going to buy a Wilt Chamberlain buyback from his '92 UD Heroes insert set, but I couldn't find any official release numbers or verification from UD so I turned it down. The seller said the hologram on the back was different, but no other collectors could confirm it. It's that kind of stuff that makes it hard for me to purchase one.

When it comes to buybacks, I think it's better to be certain than not. So yeah, all that shady different sticker hologram I would stay away from too.
